I think this goes both ways.
Ngannou got a very quick re-match with Stipe when he lost because the hype machine wanted to push him as a money maker for the UFC brand.
Then when the title wasn’t going to be used how the UFC brand wanted they of course turned on him and found a way to create an interim title.
Francis wants it both ways and it doesn’t work like that.
Francis wanted to “wait” for Jones instead of fighting lewis, last I remember.
He actually didn’t get a quick rematch. He fought 5 fives times in between their 1st and 2nd fights. Stipe and DC held up the title for almost 4 years.
I think part of the rush for the UFC is they hated how DC and Stipe weren’t active Champs. They didn’t want to start that precedent again.
I’d go with that for sure.
