US Grappling puts on very organized and well run tournaments. They are smooth running with top notch refs. That whole group works hard to make sure they put on an awesome tournament. Every time they do their submission only tournaments they get the same questions about time and match lengths and every time they get more repeat competitors. You should train to finish not ride out points.

I did this tourney last march in Winchester, VA. Can be some rough stuff, not only train to finish but please come with cardio, we had a few matches go 45+ minutes. Some were entertaining, some were guys just laying in half guard for 10 minutes at a time.

Bring your cardio = good advice! Luckily, most matches are pretty active, which means you'll need it.

If I didn't have staph I'd probably do this just for fun.

I did Diamond States like 2 weeks ago, got my ass handed to me in blue belt, and now I have staph. I think I need to take a break.

This is a great tourney, if you can do it, do it. It really makes you use your BJJ and kind of evens the playing field. In the other tournaments good wrestlers could grind out a point win in BJJ with takedowns and control. This tourney takes that out of the equation.(I used to be one of those wrestlers so I feel I can say that)

Definitely take the break, and take care of the staph! We'll be doing more submission only events in the future.
