it was great to see mma's first legal show in n.s.w. unfortunatly, 4 fighters pulled out a couple of days before the show. so, i was very glad we got 3 last minute replacements. but, since we needed an extra match, we put in an exhibition. all fights on the show were mma, except con pappy's exhibition match with one of his students. who showed excellent agility for a guy in his 40's. we had a total of 2140 seats sold. that includes the 200 corporate seats. which was a great success, considering we did no advertising at all. just through word and mouth. the main event between edwin aguilar and james tehuna, was stopped in the second round. due to edwin having a broken forearm. edwin was forced to tap out in the second round, as he couldn't use his arm at all. the injury wasn't sustained during the match. it was an old injury. he was very disapointed that his injury dictated the result of the fight. a rematch will definatly happen in the near future, as james doesn't want to earn a soft win, he wants to earn it.
the match between pedro galiza and brad morris is not a no contest. it was a clear win to brad morris. pedro refused to fight. and, was asked several times to continue. but, made the choice to quit. then, walked off the platform. it was incredible to see a brazilian quit. i have never seen a brazilian give up in the middle of a fight before. brad never left the arena, he wanted to fight. to me, when u r in the middle of a fight, you have two choices. to fight to the end. or, to find an excuse to stop the fight. pedro didn't fight to the end. he gave up. pedro officially lost that fight.
it was also great to have anthony mundine and shannon taylor in tony's corner for his fight with ben. and, yes. ben was the only guy that took the fight. i would have loved to watch larry papadopoulos vs tony. but, we all know larry only talks big on the internet. and, doesn't back it up in the cage. he will never fight tony in mma. but, if he changes his mind. tony is 100% up for it anytime. my dream match with elvis vs tony will never happen, as we all know. elvis has stated he will never fight tony. but, if he ever changes his mind, tony will fight him anytime aswell. then there's matt tryhard. who always talks about never pulling out of a fight. but, my boy. james tehuna trained his ass off to fight him on a schedualled fight on warriors realm. but, matt pulled out of the fight. we still don't know why. when does james get to fight you matt ? this is the same guy that comes on here saying he will fight tony bonello. but, 2 weeks ago he was offered the match against tony, for friday's show. he turned it down. so, i was releaved that ben stepped up to take the fight. the rest of the results will be posted in a couple of days after we review the tapes.
this is what benbjj wrote
One result was so screwed it was laughable. And everyone there knew it. Cuttas' boy got robbed.
i think he is talking bout volcano vs josh what was the deal there. i did not see much in it could u not have overturned the decision being the promota. how did u see this fite and what is ur reason for the volcano win. everyone is pissed the local boy did not win.
John
A question for you, would you fight someone with "World Class Skills" on 2 weeks notice?
I also think the Tony v Elvis and Tony v Larry has been done to death, why not just leave it alone.
I met Ben Daly and Sasha at XFC fightclub, i beleive they both trained at fight boi gym on the coast. is that the same gym Tony was training at when he spent some time on the coast.
"I met Ben Daly and Sasha at XFC fightclub, i beleive they both trained

Unclefu....correct and correct....oh yeah......and you just stepped in a
whole pile of SASSY! ;P

yes, tony did train at fight club on gold coast when he was there last year. he used the gym, and had his own team of trainers. i was one of them. sacha nor ben trained with tony while he was there. the only guy that did from that gym was volcano. on a few occasions. if tony was in the same team as either of those two guys, i'm sure he wouldn't of fought them. but, a lot of people that train with each other don't have a problem with competing against each other. even though they have trained together for years. like anthony perosh and elvis. or, mark hunt and peter graham. even possibly vanderlei silva and shogun. i know i would never let my boys fight each other.
Thanks for clearing that up John
"I also think the Tony v Elvis and Tony v Larry has been done to death, why not just leave it alone."
perhaps the talk has been done to death, as for myself i dont really care, i dont get caught up in bullshit, thing is no matter what has been said i would like to see these matches happen!!
why cant elvis fight tony?? it would be good for australian mma, there could be no talk of a work thats for sure and elvis could silence tony or tony could show that he realy is as good as he says......and thats the bottom line, i dont have any affiliation to ither so im not trying to protect one of my own, Lets leave it to the two men to settle it and not have two camps bitching about it!
you cant say ither" whats the incentive of fighting bonello" well whats the incentive of fighting Matsui??
the incentive is to build up aus MMA
I can vouch that what John said re fightboi is correct. I hooked fightboi up for Tony as it is a good upm, arket training facility that also suited him location wise.
When "I" suggested Sasha as a late replacement for Tony he had only met him in passing at the XFC fightclub event. Ben did too at that time, I think they posed for a photo with the belt.
While I was not involved with the Kumite event appart from brokering the FRENDIN match and extending XFC champ. Rhys WHITEFORD to fight. I will say this....
Time and time again I have stated that the smart fanbase is a VERY small demographic. On Kumite Tony got in the ring infront of his hometown against a much bigger and stronger opponent. To the casual fan it's Rocky v Drago & IT SELLS!!!!!!!!!
ZERO ADVERTISING AND OVER 2000 ATTENDED.
Imagine with advertising and the utilisation of a bigger venue with a cage (fingers crossed) what is possible.
For the smart fan I'd say this grin and bare (sp?) it bigger things are to come. You'll get your matches with BONELLO v superstars, however, remember most Aussies wouldn't even know JACK re MMA. The poster could say BONELLO v Randy COUTURE & most people would probably assume the natural was a friend of Ron JEREMY :)
Lighten up guys and enjoy the ride.
Justin
'well whats the incentive of fighting Matsui??'
Do you really not see the incentive in fighting a big Japanese name in front of a big Japanese crowd in Pancrase?
'we all know larry only talks big on the internet. and, doesn't back it up in the cage. '
I think the majority of this forum would disagree with that.
Elvis is focusing on running his school with 300 plus students and fighting overseas, I dont think fighting in this event would be viable due to his Pancrase commitments
John,
Congratulations on being able to hold a show in Sydney. I do have a question for you in that as a professional promoter, why do you publicly bag people on this site? Is it in the hope that they will bite and then go on your show. I would expect that the result will be the opposite and hence allow TB to keep using the statement "these people will not fight me". If that is the case, good marketing plan (LOL)
As a professional, you forfeit your right to express an opinion publicly, and when you do go public with your opinion, you then cease to be able to utilise the title PROFESSIONAL.
Good luck with your future shows in both Sydney & Brisbane
James
Aaron, Yeah Mastsui is a big name "in pro wrestling" but in terms of mma he's a tomato can, out of his six wins two were from disqualifications and the others were decisions
Im not out to disprove anything or name call, my personal opinion was that id like to see this match, i dont know much about bonello to be honest ither and would like to see him fight someone of higher quality to see if the talk is true.
Exposure is the incentive
"As a professional, you forfeit your right to express an opinion publicly, and when you do go public with your opinion, you then cease to be able to utilise the title PROFESSIONAL."
I guess we can throw John in the same bag as Don KING, Muhammad Ali, Anthony Mundine etc..........
Personally I think it's only a matter of time before people are lining up begging for the chance to fight Tony in Sydney's biggest venues.
Justin
"Aaron, Yeah Mastsui is a big name "in pro wrestling" but in terms of mma he's a tomato can, out of his six wins two were from disqualifications and the others were decisions"
LMFAO yeah Matsui is no where near the calibre opponent Bonello has faced lately. Are you serious?
Look at the list of Matsuis opponents he has only been finished 4 times in his career, against 22 top fighters. I'd like to see Bonello go the distance against opponents like Vanderlei, Carlos Newton, Belfort, Pele etc.
I'd rather be a "tomato can" who had faced world class competition than a 5 time world champion against 0-1 fighters.
Yaeh your right justees, im not arguing the point about bonellos opponents i know there not world class competitors, nither is matsui, although i do agree that hes tougher than bonellos to date!!!
Thats why i would like to see this fight, this is MY point!
Justin,
No disrespect intended, but you are the last person I would think would take anything from my post.
As I said, no disrespect as I dont have an issue with you personally nor do I have an issue with John, only an issue with the way things are conducted.
Cheers
James
ok cool then.
it can be OUR point.
Out of pure interest, since this fight will never happen it would be interesting to see what peoples predictions would be ref the outcome.
Anyone brave enough
James,
No offense taken at all mate. Just wanted to say that self publicity is an excercise that many promoters & fighters use.
