Both amazing albums
Burnt offerings straight through.
I remember pissing all my friends off when I made them listen to "The Coming Curse" over and over. I went crazy telling them it was the greatest metal song of all time. The wicked eerie piano freaked my buddy out. He really didn't like it at all and he's a huge metal guy. Best part of that tune is when it drops down into that super slow riff near the end. John has an amazingly unique style that no one can replicate.
Have you heard Demons and Wizards with Hansi Kursch and John? I'm guessing you have but in case you haven't check these two tracks out.

Ive heard of them but never gave them a chance. I find that a lot of my friends reject iced earth as well. I cant figure this out because we can agree on so many bands except for iced earth. How can you not want to listen to VIOLATE when squatting heavy?!

Whoa, zao spotting. Good choice dizz. My band covered a song from that album some 15 years ago. We played with darkest hour a few times as well.
Thanks for the memories :)
That's awesome. Guessing you guys were a hardcore/metalcore band? I used to be so into that scene in high school...played the hell out that Zao album

Hey dizz, just now saw this post, sorry for the late reply.
Yeah we were a bad metalcore band turned into an OK math metal band. I also had a side project that was a metal satire/caricature which I now realize puts us a decade ahead of the trend.
I too was very into the scene. I still listen to that stuff sometimes but i keep up on modern stuff more than i listen to old.

Savatage is awesome! My dad turned me onto them when I was a kid he has all their albums. Big fan
Apparently Savatage are reuniting for one of the big metal fests in Europe sometime this year. There has been some hinting that they might do something together after the festival, although it's probably too much to hope for a new Savatage album. Still, it is encouraging. They're definitely one of my favorite bands. Gutter Ballet just rocks my world...
