Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler is losing its steam. âThe Ultimate Fighterâ (TUF) season 31 viewership numbers are floundering, and even UFC president Dana White admits âItâs hardâ to motivate fighters like McGregor to fight.
One popular lightweight contender is keen to entertain a âNotoriousâ matchup, however. Charles Oliveira registered his interest via Twitter when he responded with a short, effective message to a rumored âinsider reportâ that McGregor is no longer interested in fighting Chandler, and the UFC is pitching for new opponents:
Naturally, the âreportâ lacks verification and fails to offer any sources or evidence to support its bold claims. However, considering Oliveiraâs recent surge in popularity, this matchup could prove to be more lucrative and exciting both from a business standpoint and in terms of fan engagement.
McGregorâs hypothetical victory in this âfightâ would position him for a title fight against Islam Makhachev, given Oliveiraâs current status as the #1 ranked lightweight.
Oliveira ranks as one of the highest PPV stars in the modern UFC era, âbreaking recordsâ in his PPV appearance alongside Makhachev according to White himself. It takes two to tango; Oliveira vs. McGregor could be one of the highest performing events in the sportâs history.
Considering the floundering TUF performance and the doubt surrounding the Chandler fight, perhaps a change of matchup would renew interest and spark more interest in a McGregor comeback fight.

It would be great to see Charles beat Conorâs ass. Charles deserves to be a superstar.
Conor is the anomaly of all anomalies. Charles has the fourth largest amount of IG followers out of any UFC fighter (Conor, Izzy, Jon, Charles), but the difference between the two is astronomical (46.5M vs 6.7M). Even Dustin whoâs beaten the Conman twice now is sitting behind both at 4.3M. How much bigger of a star can a non English speaking Brazilian be? Heâd be a legend in Brazil for sure. Not so much anywhere else besides in mma circles.

This is streamlining Conor for a 55 title shot. Charles is a vastly superior all round fighter but Conor could also catch him since Oliviera likes to bang.
The only fights Conor is doing from here is fighting sexual assault charges.
