I won the fight but I was not satisfied," Overeem said. "I didn't get a KO. I worked hard, and when i look at the fight, I did dominate him. I stuck to the game plan but you have to give credit to Fabricio -- he was prepared. He was not going to get suckered into my game, which is the stand up, and he got me out of my game. His takedowns were not successful, but I think he trained hard for this fight, he really wanted to win. I felt his power and he was there to win."
However, while Overeem said he understood Werdum's strategy in the fight, he dismissed those observers who said that Werdum landing more strikes in the bout meant that Werdum actually deserved to win the decision. According to Overeem, the strikes Werdum landed were just a minor annoyance."I'm not impressed with his striking," Overeem said. "He does not hit hard. He was using his strikes to set up his takedowns, but there was no damage. I was annoyed. ... When you look at a fight, who's more dominant? You can see who's more dominant."
Overeem did his job. He cracked Werdum a couple of times that would've crumbled the average fighter. I was impressed with Werdum's heart and determination after his knee injury in the 2nd. I can't wait for the next rnd.
Kanodogg1 - Hmmm ask him how hard chuck lil nog shogun and kharitonov hit <img src="/images/phone/post_tag.png" alt="Phone Post" border="0" style="vertical-align:middle;"/>
this has nothing to do with the werdum fight, and the comment only made you look like a crybaby
no crybaby here, i just think it was an extremely douchey thing for overeem to say, especially considering he was covering up and backing away.
We all know that.Werdum is a BJJ expert and he is not one of the best striker of the world. At least that's not surprising to hear that. But Overeem should think about his skills.he didn't punch too hard either !That's more surprising for a K1 champion.
Im sure Werdum doesnt hit harder than some of the K-1 guys Overeem has fought.
He still got put on the defensive and outstruck(at least quantity wise)..and got his defense breached a lot.
For someone hyped as being "the best Striker in the HW division", he got hit a lot. He may have not been concerned with Werdum's power, but he cannot continue to fight like that against the next level HW's.

I fully believe Cain or JDS would finish Overeem no later than the 2nd or 3rd round in a 5 round fight. Maybe even sooner.
