People don’t care for him mainly because his fight style is boring as fuck to watch. I’d rather watch paint dry. Fighters like Merab need interviews, but not the other way around.
Good fighter? Yes. Fun to watch? Absolutely not.
And thats my point as to why interviews are important and fighters should not get paid.
Before knowing his personality, would you pay for his interview?
A lot of ridiculous takes. Anyone is free to demand cash for an interview. Maybe they’ll get it and maybe they won’t.

If he’s a great personality, then he could start his own channel or an account and make money himself, instead of giving others free content.

Do athletes in other sports get paid for interviews? And the fighter gets the benefit of promotion. That’s the hand off.
i could announce on here that i expect to be paid for posting. maybe I’ll get paid and maybe i can get fucked. but if you stepped in to advise me that i am unlikely to get paid due to the many factors involved (not least the arrogance of making such a demand) and that it wouldn’t make sense, that wouldn’t be a ridiculous take.

Fighter interviews are no different than actors going on talk shows to promote their latest movie. Paddy comes off a bit dumb here.

Strickland is at least somewhat interesting though. His fight with Adesanya was great. Merab seems like a nice guy but his fights are boring.
It does not matter how fun a fighter is in interviews, at the end of the day, it’s not their job. Their job is to deliver good fights.
I may checkout the interview, but I am not wasting time on a 25 minute hold fest.

Fighters should be popular because they’re exciting in the cage. Being likeable or exciting on the mic is just a bonus.

You do media interviews because it helps build your brand and the interest fans have in you.
A lot of these fighters hate doing media, or outright refuse to do media, and then wonder why they only make 30/30 their entire tenure in the UFC. It’s because NOBODY KNOWS WHO THE FUCK YOU ARE. Why would you make a penny more by doing the bare minimum?

There’s no should or shouldn’t.
A fighter can ask for $. An interviewer can pay or not pay.
The beauty of the free market is everyone can do whatever they want.
