Pankration is a non Olympic Style of Wrestling sanctioned by FILA.
The California State Championships will be the last open tournament on the West Coast to get seeded for the USA World Team Trails in Las Vegas on June 25th. USA World Team athletes will receive travel funds to compete at the Senior World Championships in Serbia, Sept 29 - Oct 1st. The World Championships for Veteran's Cadets and Juniors November 4 -6 in Hungry will be a self funded World Championships for US Athletes.

This years venue will contain only three full size Wrestling mats so participation is limited. Pre register to ensure your spot! Adult divisions will fill up fast!!!

-Double Elimination Modified FILA Pankration/ Combat Grappling Rules
-One Skill Level Amateur Tournament. Athletes with Two or more Professional Victories are prohibited.
-Strikes, Takedowns, Grappling and Submissions allowed
-21 age and weight groups for youth and adults
-Custom medals for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place finalists
COMPETITOR ENTRY FEE:
$45 Civilians and dependents
$5 Active duty, retired and reservists of the US Armed Forces
Military must shows current military ID at time of weigh in. No Exceptions
20% of all proceeds go to support Marine Corps Community Services

-Failure to make weight will result in removal from tournament, No Refunds No Exceptions!
-Applicants may request to change weight groups prior to April 20th if space still exists.
No refunds after April 20th. Cancelations prior to April 20th will receive refund minus $15 **

Directions:
1. Exit Basilone Rd from I-5. The Northern most end of Camp Pendleton and the Orange / San Diego County line.
2. Proceed east to the Military Gate and enter base.
3. Stay on Basilone Rd for 3 miles and turn left onto San Mateo Rd (You will see the Fire Station on the Right Side of the road).
4. Proceed on San Mateo Rd for 3 miles and turn left onto 6th street ( You will see a big Flag pole).
5. Go down the hill to the gymnasium.
To drive on base you must show drivers license, vehicle registration and proof of insurance. All vehicles are subject to search

Didn't know it was recognized by FILA. Also good to see the dorky uniforms from that Human Weapon episode aren't the norm.
Very cool.
Makes you wonder, though, where we'd all be right now if pankration had been reinstated in 1896, and remained strong/popular? Might it, instead of generic 'mma' be the hot sport these days, with fighters earning boxing-esque money? Would it have kept real professional wrestling popular as well?
