Bellator Featherweight Champion Patrício Pitbull has been turned around quickly following his canceled fight at last weekend’s PFL vs. Bellator event in Saudi Arabia.
While the omission of one of the featherweight division’s all-time best was a blow to the recent card, Saudi Arabia’s disappointment turns out to have been to Northern Ireland’s gain…

Patrício Pitbull Set For Bellator Belfast Title Defense On March 22

Following its acquisition of the promotion in late 2023, the PFL is launching a fresh iteration of the Bellator brand this year with the Bellator Champions Series. Across eight lineups around the world, the promotion’s gold is set to be fought for.
At the first event, set to go down inside Belfast’s SSE Arena on March 22, both the light heavyweight and featherweight straps will be on the line, with the latter belt being a late addition.

It was announced in a press release on Thursday that Pitbull (35-7) will make a quick turnaround following his failed trip to the Middle East to defend his featherweight title at Bellator Belfast against top contender Jeremy Kennedy (19-3).

Pitbull was scheduled to take part in one of the high-profile champ vs. champ bouts at the Kingdom Arena on February 24. But in addition to his planned showdown with PFL titleholder Jesus Pinedo falling through, replacement opponent Gabriel Braga was also forced out after missing weight in Riyadh.

All I’ve wanted to see in the Bellator FW division is Pico to take the belt off Pitbull.

Instead Pico gets injured in the Kennedy fight and Kennedy refused the rematch. Pitbull goes after the BW belt and then takes a LW fight on three days notice for RIZIN.

Now this.

Pico has gone 9-0 besides the injury since 2020 at FW and Pitbull has gone 5-1 at FW since 2020 but won the rematch of the fight he lost.

I’m gonna be pissed if Kennedy beats 36 year old Pitbull and we don’t get to see Pico vs Pitbull for the title.

Since 2018, I’ve figured Pico vs Pitbull in a title fight would be just a matter of time. Never thought it was guaranteed as nothing is guaranteed in MMA but it always felt inevitable.

Pico has gone 12-2 since then, Pitbull has gone 9-1 at FW since then.

Still its just never happened.

Kennedy better not play spoiler.
