While I agree he has a lot of miles, I think it was more about how fucking awesome Chris looked. Those knee's were serious as fuck, and he had great body control.
If the UFC were to let Riggs go, he'd just go fight somewhere else. When was the last time he even had a decent looking win?

He has enough knowledge of the game that he could be a great coach, but if he keeps getting hurt like this he won't be able to have any sort of career after fighting.

He's a tough guy and a good fighter still skill wise but that chin is done. He looked damn good on that Bellator show
Shooting yourself in the manner that he did is more than "bad luck" IMO - that kind of shit doesn't happen if you handle your firearm properly.
