Prime Cain vs Prime Carwin = Who wins?

Brockback Mountain -
Dreville79 -

Prime Velasquez is the best HW the world has ever seen. He beats Stipe, Cormier, Jones, Ngannou and any other fighter

Didnt “prime velasquez” get knocked into the shadow realm by Junior?

LOLOLOL

Prime JDS was one of the best HWs of all time too. Carwin isn’t a Top 20 HW of all time

Shane is one of my all time favourite HWs too, absolute beast in his day. But he was not as good as Cain or JDS. Carwin only ever had one good round in him, no cardio, it just wasn’t important because he tended to knock fools out in the first round.

In this hypothetical fight, Carwin has the very definition of a punchers chance. Cain wins 8/10 times

Cain starched the same Lesnar who hung tough and finished a gassed Carwin.

I think Cardio Cain would take the wind out of Carwin and get the finish.

Carwin wasn’t even a blip in MMA, im confused why he is given any benefit of the doubt, I only remember him getting beat by Brock as his standout moment.

onepunchJD -

Carwin coukd KO Cain in the first.

Wouldn’t look like JDS… might come off a break or against the fence.

Cain liked to unload in clinch range, but Carwin only needs one to land.

If that didn’t happen, Cain’s cardio and pace would likely be too much.

Dude was a machine who never let up and threw heavy leather at close range.

Carwin qould have had to hurt him early IMO.

Way to go out on a limb and pick both

Prime JDS was not “one of the best HWs of all time.” Where do you people get this stuff?

onepunchJD -
SuperFightFan - This is a closer fight than most think IMO!

Carwin can wrestle and has beter KO power than Cain. No one has held Carwin down.

People think Cain was so unstoppable but all we got to see of that was vs JDS/Bigfoot for awhile there.

Carwin was killing Brock and a different ref may have stopped it.

Tough IMO!

Carwin also whizzered Brock.

Not taking anything away from Brock, becUse that was one of his best wins IMO – but if Carwin had just paced himself a little, he probably wins that fight – and it would have been remembered as a one sided beatdown.

Carwin is a monster.

So is Cain.

I can’t see being 100% confident in either outcome – and pretty sure both guys would get multiple wins if they fought 10 times.

Carwin is one of the bigger “what-ifs” of MMA HWs IMO.

Carwin did win that fight. Had it been anyone other than Brock, they’d have stopped it in the first round when he wasn’t defending himself. The precedent for that sort of stoppage is already in place.

Cains pace and cardio would be too much for Carwin I think.

Fuck I miss watching Shane though. Cinder blocks for hands.

I just call em like I seem em.

Plenty of fights could go either way.

This is a hypothetical matchup that isn’t happening.

I’m not betting money.

Why should I feel the need to “go out on a limb”?

No, Carwin did not win that fight.

Brock weathered the storm and came back to win.

I’m all for fighter safety, but I’m also a purist.

If a guy can get his ass kicked and still manage to come back and win in the end, he deserves credit for that.

Carwin probably should have won – but that’s on him – not the ref.

He could have been a little more methodical and saved something for the next round.

Regardless, it showed something about both fighters.

It showed how physically formidable Carwin truly was to dominate that first round.

It showed weak links in terms of cardio and strategy for Carwin.

It showed Brock’s physical durability, as well as his championship determination to come back and impose his will after a beating.

Definitely a clash of 2 absolute monsters.

I might rewatch that one in the near future.

People do this with Robbie and Askren and it’s so weird. (Not talking about the finish, but about "that fight should have been stopped because Ben was out).

Nobody would have complained if the Brock fight was stopped. But it wasn’t. And then Brock won fairly squarly.

Yeah. What a weird comment.

Prime Cain got KOd by the second best HW of his generation, and then twice beat the living shit out of him.

Cain overachieved. Carwin was a tough guy, but he never went as far as some thought he would. So I pick Cain here.

Read more, post less.

I apologize for my anger. Suffice to say, I think you are all wrong.

Wins over Werdum, CroCop, Gonzaga, Nelson, Carwin, Cain, Mir, Hunto.

Other than Cain, which HW was better during the UFC on Fox era?

Right.

Doesn’t matter what occured before.

But when it didn’t happen, and Brock won, it becomes a moot point.

You sign up for 5 rounds.

You fail to put your opponent away – no matter how one-sided the beatdown – it’s on you to deal with him when he gets up.

Tired or not.

What happened in that fight is probably a good example of the ref being right not to stop a fight.

I had £100 on Carwin that fight, I spent three minutes screaming at the fucking ref. Soon as Round 1 ended, I knew Brock had it and I was absolutely fuming lol
