I usually love these Primetime shows but lately they seem to have been getting faggier and faggier, almost to the point where I forget there's a fight happening
I could understand it with the Velasquez-Dos Santos fight, they both look like cro magnons so it's interesting to see their normal human life, especially it being the first fox show and a new audience.
But this latest one... man, it was really getting a bit much with the tinkly sad music and the whole 'troubled tortured Nick Diaz' thing. Oh he's so special blah blah blah. Really? Are you sure he's not just a slightly douchey guy who is good at fighting?
I just found it a bit silly, Cesar Gracie talking about the 'pretentiousness' of the cameras ... pretentiously, to the cameras. Oh he can't be polite and friendly, he is going to fight! Never mind that all the other fighters can manage to do both just fine. Oh Nick was a troubled child! He pulled the fire alarm and everything!!! Well shit dude I did that and I didn't just stand there and get caught neither, dumbass. If he was shitting in desk drawers or something it would be worth talking about, but really? Oh I pulled the fire alarm and my soft teacher who adored me did nothing much really... also here are some pictures from my troubled childhood where I look like I'm having a whale of a time. Boo hoo hoo I could never fit in because I was slightly different to other people, I'm not exactly the same as other people oh woe is me.
Now I get what they are aiming for, he's a poet and all that, but seriously, look at what Steve Heath said, he's a poet IN THE RING, his FIGHTING is poetry in motion... the stuff that comes out of his mouth is mostly nonsense so I don't know why they were trying to make it seem like everything he says is a profound philosophical insight.
I think Primetime has gotten a bit too detached from the fighting aspect. It's nice that Carlos has a gorgeous wife and baby and house and so on, I'm glad to hear it, but really I want to see his fucking insane fighting skills more than I want to see his leisure time with his family.
A few minutes of Nick Diaz fight footage tells more of his genius than any amount of footage of him gibbering on about whatever random thoughts are passing through his head. I mean this guy has a completely unique boxing style that no one else has mastered, demolishes opponents in such an amazing, spectacular way, but there's no talk of it and barely any footage apart from rushed little montage clips of strikes.
It's always nice to see the human side of fighters, but I hope these Primetime shows move away from this lady-oriented lifestyle material and back to the reason why we care about these guys in the first place, they're going into a cage to try and fuck each other up, and they're both really good at it, and we don't know who is going to win but here is this guy's skills, here is the other guy's skills, etc. That's want I want to learn about, not what color curtains Carlos and his wife are getting for the lounge.
Personally, I like how they're going a little deeper with Diaz. The guy is quite a character and we typically only see/hear about the bad stuff. It's interesting to see his day to day.
Suess - so you don't care about their lives outside the cage, but you tune in to primetime?
I care about their lives outside the cage only as it pertains to their performance inside the cage. I watch Primetime in anticipation of an upcoming fight, not to learn about some dude's private life. If Carlos was an accountant and Nick a McDonald's employee, I fully admit I would not give a shit about them or their lives. I only care about them because they are good fighters.
I see where the OP is going and there is some sense to it...

This makes sense
" found it a bit silly, Cesar Gracie talking about the 'pretentiousness' of the cameras ... pretentiously, to the cameras...."
Hahaha. Cesar is a douche!! Someone loan him a Portuguese accent already...
They're making it as similar to HBO's 24/7 as possible. It's obviously a formula that works.
Dont feed the troll/attention whore
"it was really getting a bit much with the tinkly sad music and the whole 'troubled tortured Nick Diaz' thing...."
Another superb observation. His fans, the new ones especially (and let's be honest, 90% of the "209ers" didn't know shit about Diaz when he was first fighting in the Octagon or getting gifted a decision against guys like Mike Aina) literally have a crush in the guy.
well you dont like it, dont watch it. change the channel, dont be a dick about it.
IMO it was one of the better ones it was ok to not see them training
but how much better would it have been to see Diaz sparring Ward, or trainging with nate a bunch
the fact that it was only 30 mins hurt it, should have been an hour

The primetime shows are not made for us, we will watch the fights anyway. Keep that in mind and the show makes more sense.
not taking the OP seriously, I actually got a nice laugh out of it
Anyone actually read more than the first sentence?

I think you're probably right, but I question that approach. Wouldn't it be nicer to make something that dedicated fans can enjoy, since they are the people who actually follow the sport?
For example, I showed the Velasquez-Dos Santos Primetime to a couple who I am friends with. I showed it to them because I thought it was an amazing piece of filmmaking, they are not into MMA, but this Primetime was surely one of the best for appealing to a general audience. And they did watch it and got drawn into it, because it was extremely well made.
However I was amazed to find that even after watching the amazing Primetime, they weren't that excited about watching the actual fight. The guy wanted to watch it but the girl left the fucking room! And when it ended quickly the guy said it was bullshit and asked me if it was all just actors/fixed. Neither of them were converted to MMA fans!

x2
You don't need to watch it bro, and you think they are going to put sparring footage and training footage on television? The idea works unless you don't give a shit about their personal lives, then you can just turn it off.
Yeah I'm such a gay for expressing reasoned opinions about the Primetime show, I mean it's not like Dana came on here last night and asked us all what we thought of it. Or wait, maybe it's less gay to just lick ass and say it was great!
Dr Violence - Yeah I'm such a gay
different strokes for different folks, I guess... I enjoyed it.
