Poeple are criticizing Assuero Silva for pulling guard against the fence, saying he wasn't doing anything, including not being able to drag the bigger Silvia down.
IMO, he wasn't trying to take silva down in his guard, he was stalling for a break. Much like many stand up fighters do when they are taken down. The know just enough guard techniques to hold the top person down and wait for a standup.
By Assuereo pulling a standing guard, Tim was not able knee or punch. It got the much smaller Assuereo oout of a bad position. Although not pretty and kinda gay looking, Standing Guard Pulling Against the Fence (SGPAF) may be a valid technique that we may see more often.
I thought of this too. I think he was afraid to go the ground. I don't know why ... Is Assuereo known for a good guard?
But in order to that, he would have to step back as you said and this gives the Standing Guard Puller an opportunity to get back to his feet and start over again AWAY from the fence... maybe even turn his opponent to the fence if he kept that over under grip.
I thought it was unfair that Silvia's shorts were loose enough to come down/make Big John reset them. I think if Silva wants to pull guard he should be allowed to pull guard, but the fact that Silvia's shorts weren't tight enough didn't allow him to do that and made for an advantage for Silvia. Silvia looked absolutely opposed to going to the ground for any reason, and I thought it was valid for Silva to give him the choice of supporting his weight for an indefinite amount of time or going to the ground. I don't know, I'm kind of...on the fence...about it.
" if he needed a rest 2 minutes into the fight he shouldnt have been there Honestly i dont wanna see him again in UFC anyways"
I didn't mean a break in the fight, I meant a break in position. He was at a disadvantage against the fence against a guy that was bigger and heavier than him throwing knees.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a big fan of Assuereo's, I just wanted to comment on this part of his gameplan.
i would have liked to have seen more elbows to the quadriceps from silvia when silva kept pulling guard like that, that would have taken some of the steam out of silvas footwork.
I dont get why Sylvia didnt take a step back and drop all of his weight down in one big slam like Hughes did when Newton was going for the triangle.
There's no leverage.
Silva's legs were wrapped around Tim's hips and his arms were tied in close. That hinders a powerful slam. To execute a good slam, you have to be able to lift, you need some separation to use your arms, and be able to bend or move your waist.
Like Hughes vs Newton....... It was out of a triangle. Matt was able to basically powerbomb him. He was able to use his arms to bring him down, and bend his waist to finish it through.
Much like Rampage vs Arona.
All Tim could've done was step back, maybe jump two inches off the ground, and flop down on top of Silva. No leverage, no real impact, and he would've just placed himself where he didn't want to be in the first place without having done any damage.
