I joined mine. They had a great reputation.
They turned out to be disorganized and unhelpful. The first red flag was when I attended my first meeting and the lady in charge of membership thought I ran a web design business, despite several conversations via phone and email about what I did.
They offered to sponsor a grand opening for me, but since I had been in business awhile they said they'd use my 5 year anniversary instead. They were bringing member businesses and the press. We set this up a couple months in advance and I confirmed all details.
I called them to confirm 24 hours out and they had no idea what I was talking about, and then told me that I shouldn't ask for things with only a day's notice. Not a single person showed up.
When I managed a new dance studio a few years later, we involved the same chamber. They dropped the ball with that one, too. They sent over the leadership for a photo op on a random weekday morning as an apology. I was not impressed.
