Fan film by me discussing some of Ramon Dekkers biggest fights and his place in Muay Thai history.
Interesting
For later, thanks for sharing, I'll come back and let you know what I think!
Didn't he kick so hard he kept breaking his ankle or some shit and got it fused together and kept flinging his legs around anyway? I love watching his fights, his ferocity was extremely entertaining.
Man or myth? More like "legend".

He did have a lot of injuries, for that reason my video focused on his prime which for me was his early 20's.
ABCTT_HeHitsMeBecauseHeLovesMe -Man or myth? More like "legend".
He has a lot of detractors out there if you look at places like YouTube comments, the sherdog kickboxing forum or reddit.
On the flip side some of fans want to act like he taught the thai's to pivot your lead leg when throwing a left hook which is a bit patronising as well.
Sub for later .
I met him at a seminar about 10 years ago and he signed my gloves before i even knew who he was.
I was just told about the seminar and that i should go so i did.
It was a good seminar.
He would demo a combo and people would partner up and practice the combo for about 2 minutes then swap.
Gloves actually make pretty good mits .
When he demod something with a leg kick involved he went surprisingly hard with the kick. Id say about 70% which was pretty fuckin hard . Not his hardest but way past the point of what most people would be able to throw. He mostly did it on his student who was in Australia for a fight the next weekend but i remember he did it on one random guy . Everyone heard the thunk. Especially because it was such a small gym . The guy took it , it seemed like a few seconds of silence where you could hear a pin drop. Then everyone in the gym let out a oohhhh sound all together and the bloke almost crumbled to the ground once he knew he wouldn't get looked at like a pussy or something. He was kind of in agony and laughing/smiling at the same time. That guy will never forget the day he was kicked in the leg by ramon dekkers.
Somthing about that kick too , and i know everyone thinks they know about leg kicking. Was the placement . It's one thing to see them getting thrown on tv or even live in fights or even at each other in training. But seeing dekkers throw a pretty much full blast leg kick at someone to demonstrate how it's done was interesting.
It was placed in the spot that you knew would hurt the most. About 4 inches up from the knee on the side. Right where the quad muscle starts to attach to the bone.
It didn't sound like he was kicking the leg. It sounded like he was kicking leg bone . The rest of the sound came from the dude rattling the ring floor ( you know how boxing rings are really noisy when you bounce on them) his kick bounced him into the ring
The man, myth and legend! He is my hero!
Somewhere deep in storage I have an old dvd documentary about him titled Night of the Diamond. OP have you seen this?
One of my heros and the reason I started Muy Thai. His Teep Kick to the face was like no other. First real westerner the Thais took super serious.
The Sauce -The man, myth and legend! He is my hero!
Decent catchphrase I've updated my video title, thanks for the idea.
DarthBader -Dude was insane, I remember seing him on some HL videos when i was about 14 or so. The guy literally went to Thailand and smashed all their muay thai fighters.
He took too many steroids though and went into cardiac arrest at like 40. In which he died. I honestly think that's weak, you gotta do roids to compete in freaking muay thai?
Are you sure he was on steroids?
I've never really heard his name used in connection with them.
I gave him the benefit of the doubt for his (incredible) performance against Ludwig but I did think it was slightly suspicious how he showed up for that fight in great shape, even though he was fighting at a much higher weight than he fought in Thailand.
If I had to guess I would put it at 95-99% that he was PED free during the bulk of his time in Thailand.
This article lists a bunch of marathon runners who died of heart attacks in their mid 40's. I'd guess most if not all, didn't juice;

https://www.reddit.com/r/MMA/comments/19dmzv/why_did_shawn_tompkins_and_ramon_dekkers_die_from/ Common for many people who did steroids to die of a heart attack. Not a 100 procent sure, but lets be honest, nobody whos healthy like he was dies at 43. Something is just off about this whole thing if you ask me.
Your right it could possibly also be from blood doping of some kind.
Fuckin serious ?
You just matter of factly dropped some reddit conjecture as a fact bomb
Im not naive, and im not going to sit here and argue on his behalf.
But fuck me mate . Im seriously questioning myself wether im either responding to a troll,or a gossip whore.
It's got to be one of the two.

I watched that fight years ago between him and ludwig now so i cant remember like it was yesterday.
From my memory though i wouldnt call it an incredible performance.
It almost looked to me at the time like dekkers was carrying him.
It was actually a pretty close fight
That injury he had explains a bit though of why i thought that.

For me the incredible part about it was that he only punched with one arm - Not one weak arm but literally one arm.
That is just such a massive handicap I've never seen another fighter not pull out in a situation like that, let alone win.
And I agree it looked like he was carrying him, potentially because after the knockdowns he couldn't go for the finish with two hands. Ludwig Beat Malaipet who was a rajadamnern champion so it was very impressive even if the fight didn't play out like Hagler vs Hearns from an excitement perspective.
Forrest Spliffn -You know those type of people that would join green peace back in the day?
Now they have been thrown into a massive panic by the mainstream media and had the battery put into their back by people like greta.
Basically they are trying to prove climate change and bring about world wide change, by burning the country to the ground.
Absolute fuckery going down
Do you really believe the shit you just typed?

This is idiotic. Lots of people have heart attacks at that age, a guy I work with just had one and luckily he survived but it was a serious possibility that he didn't.
