Rampage Enters Guilty Plea, Gets Plea Bargain

            <p><p>MMA Weekly <a href="http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templates/dailynews.asp?articleid=7924&amp;zoneid=2">reports from the Orange County Courthouse:</a></p>

In an Orange County court on Thursday, Jackson accepted a plea bargain in a case stemming from his arrest on July 15, 2008, in exchange for a reversal of his plea from not guilty to guilty. The arrest came following Jackson allegedly leading police on a chase that involved hitting other vehicles, running red traffic lights, driving into oncoming traffic, and ended in Newport Beach.

He was originally charged with one felony count of evading while driving recklessly, one felony count of evading a peace officer and driving against traffic, three misdemeanor counts of hit and run with property damage, and one misdemeanor count of reckless driving. At his preliminary hearing on Thursday, he reversed his plea to guilty on one misdemeanor count of reckless driving and one felony count of evading a peace officer and driving against traffic.

With the acceptance of the plea bargain, Jackson's sentencing will be deferred to Jan. 7, 2010. If he meets the requirements of the plea bargain, the felony count will be dismissed and he will only be sentenced for the misdemeanor. If he fails to meet the requirements of his plea bargain, he will be charged and sentenced on both counts.

The terms of Jackson's plea bargain include: 200 hours of community service aimed at young people, regular doctor's appointments and bimonthly progress reports for the district attorney's office.

Jackson will also pay full restitution on both the misdemeanor and felony counts, even if the felony count ends up being dismissed under the plea bargain.

Proof that money and expensive lawyers will get you out of anything

That's the right move by the court. Jails are full of people that could be better served giving to the community via community service and helping kids.

The couseling can't hurt anyone either , especially during tough times.

More than fair sentence.

Rampage in jail wouldnt do anything for society or to help whatever maybe going on upstairs.

Odessa is correct.

Regardless of weather this is a slap on the wrist or not... Due you really think 6 months to a year in jail. Would make him a better person? Everyone goes thru bad times in ones life, we all handle it differently. Hopefully with counseling he will learn how to deal with life up and down in a constructive manner.

Very well put.

Daniel Plainview - Simply revolting that Rampage can endanger so many people and get oof with a slap on the wrist.

This is why I hate ignorant white people.

odessa's right on...well done by zuffa's lawyers as well...pretty much best case scenario for them. rampage better not fuck up though

I'm w/ Oddessa on this one. But Rampage better be careful over the next year...

I doubt that the OC DA's Office treated Rampage any differently than they would've treated someone who wasn't a celebrity but who had committed the same crimes.

great news, I bet thats a weight off his shoulders

cant wait to see him vs rashad!!

The goal would not be to make him a better person anyway. I think chases of any sort should lead to jail time.

Absolutley horrible, he put all those innocent people in harms way along with the police officers and hes pretty much walking away laughing. Absolutley pathetic, on the courts part. Counseling is not going to improve or help this reckless asshole deal with his "so called" problems. I was never a Rashad Evans fan, but if Silva couldn't put him away, I'm backing Rashad.

allegedly?

First grade must have been the toughest 3 years of your life.

Lynn Marie - allegedly?

I don't think it was his celebrity that got him off, it was that high-paid team of lawyers.  If the average joe went out tomorrow and brought the police on a high-speed chase ending w/ 2 felonies and 4 misdemeanors, I would bet the farm that they'd end up with more than community service and a single misdemeanor.

Good post, Odessa.  I agree 100%

ha ha ha what the fuck are people talking about ?

Being punished with a prison sentence wouldnt allow him to improve himself so therefore he shouldn't be punished ?

ha ha ha What a crock of shit.

Just say what we are all thinking. Rampage is awesome, we want him in the Octagon, not in a cell. And therefore this deicision is great !!

Why bother trying to spin it.

You would have a different outlook on the situation if you or your family member was in one of the cars he "allegedly" (even though there is video) ran off the road.
