I like the mutual sign of respect before the guillotine choke was applied. Great thread.

How did he know Rashad? I've always wondered but never asked. Almost 10 years later here it is.

My thoughts are that Rashad's next fight needs to be against either Jack Hermansson or Brad Scott.

But I do know how to pick who to root for: Rashad in 2008 - and the Eagles in 2017!

B0NESAW - Here is Anthony's blog from his myspace page about UFC 92.. Enjoy!

UFC 92: Rashad Wins Title “On The Road”

A grand time indeed was had by this observer at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas last Saturday night, as “Sugar” Rashad Evans stopped Forrest Griffin in the third round of their scheduled five-round fight for the UFC light heavyweight title belt that Forrest brought into the Grand Garden Arena, only to see Rashad leave with it.

Mere moments before the fight started, I had what would prove to be a most interesting encounter: Seated on an aisle overlooking one of the tunnels, I happened to catch a glimpse of Mike Whitehead, who had gotten into it with Rashad when they both appeared on Season 2 of The Ultimate Fighter, from which Rashad emerged the winner of a three-year contract that ended with this fight (how’s that for more irony?). One of the event-staff personnel alerted Mike to the fact that someone recognized him as he walked through the tunnel, and pointed me out - whereupon Mike gracefully took the time out to pose for a photo with me. Following a brief but awkward delay because the lens wouldn’t pop out of the camera, the shot was snapped, Mike and I shook hands, and he took his seat in the floor section.

Then came the fight - with Rashad playfully razzing Forrest early in the second round by blowing a kiss and then channeling Roseanne Barr in that infamous national-anthem incident from back in 1990 - a move reminiscent of an episode in the reality show that aroused Mike Whitehead’s (and Matt Hughes’) ire (and would do so again for Mike, during an interview he gave with a local web site Monday). Essentially, all Rashad was trying to convey to Forrest was “You may be bigger than me, but I’m not afraid of you” (he had used a similar tactic to great effect against Chuck Liddell in his previous fight, at UFC 88) - but you know how people love to talk!

In any case, Forrest appeared to have dominated both of the first two rounds - but Round 3 would tell the diametrically opposite story, the accompanying account of same coming courtesy of Sherdog:

Griffin slips during an exchange and is forced to work from his back. Evans pounds away with punches from both hands as referee Steve Mazzagatti looks on closely. Griffin hangs in and recovers enough to attempt a triangle choke and an omaplata. Evans lands five hard right hands from the top position that hurt the champion. Evans pours it on with left-handed power shots until Griffin taps out from the abuse. Rashad Evans claims the UFC light heavyweight title at 2:46 of the third round.

Simply unreal - and decidedly unpopular with the crowd, which loudly chanted “Forrest! Forrest!” throughout the fight. The atmosphere was so partisan that they should have made Rashad wear a white jersey - or perhaps a white gi (pronounced “gee,” that’s the traditional belted robe worn by practitioners of such martial arts as jiu-jitsu, for those of you in Rio Linda, West Palm Beach and Staten Island) just to reinforce the point that he was “on the road,” with Forrest “at home.”

But no matter: “On the road” or not, and conceding four inches in size or not, Rashad was now not only a UFC champion, but an undefeated UFC champion, giving him common cause with no less than Randy Couture.

As mixed-martial-arts tradition dictates, then came the after-party, at Prive inside Planet Hollywood - and there I was accorded the opportunity to personally congratulate Rashad and once again express my appreciation for all he has done for me since we first met on the other side of town, at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, exactly two and a half years prior, the day before Rashad defeated Stephan Bonnar at Ultimate Fight Night 5.

In the course of my interactions with Rashad, I have had the privilege of meeting many members of his family, along with those he trains with at Jackson’s in Albuquerque - his coaches, Greg Jackson and Mike Winkeljohn, plus many of their other fighters; and allow me to get out there that never in my entire life have I ever encountered finer and classier people. They have all thoroughly earned the glory in which they now bask.

About the only thing left for me to attend at this point is the induction ceremony, when Rashad is enshrined in the UFC Hall of Fame.

But that’s far hence - and in the meantime, in between time, ain’t we got fun!

Damn man, I really REALLY tried to get through all that. I just couldn’t do it. Holy fucking run-on sentence, first of all.

This thread was an all time great...

Mandatory Rashad Bump, especially since there were Two Rashads On One Card, probably for the first time in UFC history.

The way Dana talked after the event, this might be the final Rashad After Party. If so, best of everything in the future, Rashad.

What did Dana say after the event?

ttt

He said Rashad's after party rocked

Classic thread... was hilarious.

Only thing that beats it is frontrowbrian's monstrosity....

I think at this point  Rashad vs Anthony would be competitive.Â
