REAL REASON SHINE FIGHTS WHERE CANCELLED

--Apparently the Shine Fights show was canceled last night by the North Carolina State Athletic Commission because the commission rules require the promoter to have the purse money for the fighters by 6 p.m. the night of the show.  What happened was the promoter, Devin Price, was in court in Florida trying to fight the injunction, which lost.  He was unable to get to Fayetteville by 6 p.m., and rather than wait for him, they called the show off.  It's not exactly clear what will happen but the belief is most of the fighters will get 25% of their purse taken out of the promoter's bond.  I have only once heard of a commission canceling a show, which was here in California at the Cow Palace for an MMA show because the cage used was dangerous and they wouldn't be able to get it fixed before show time.  But if you think of all the MMA and pro wrestling shows over the years when the advertised main event had to be canceled for whatever reason (and in many cases with the promotion not even alerting the public before the show started) with no sanctions, well, this was completely different.  He said that the promotion will continue.

Cancelled where?

 i posted this last night

this is the official reason why

is it normal for an org to give the money the day of the event? that seems kinda shady and risky from everyones perspective, nobody really ever heard of the nc athletic commission, they probably had no idea what they were doing

Those are COMPLETELY different incidences. Here, you have a promoter that KNOWINGLY tried to sign a fighter who was contracted with a rival promoter. It is 100% the promoter's (Devin Price) duty to resolve this contractual obligation MONTHS in advance. Don't give me that "this is MMA, not boxing" bullshit excuse. Mayorga's involvement in this fight has a significant effect on his future abilities to perform for DKP, whether that be boxing, promoting, whatever. Any idiot, (and hundreds of OGrs) actually made this observation months ago.

This whole think reeks of being shady. Why would you want the show to continue, when you built the entire card around one fight (which was in legal jeopardy from its inception)?

Let's see.

1. Create a hugely hyped bullshit fight you know will never take place.

2. Promote that fraudulent fight as the main event of the promotion.

3. Sell as many tickets and ppv's to the event as possible.

4. Wait for injunction to take place.

5. HOPE FOR commission to cancel main event only, but allow for the rest of the event to take place; in hopes so that you can take as much money as possible from fans.

6. Blame evil Don King and Athletic Commission for being greedy and not wanting to let the fans see this main event of epic proportions.

Complete fucking Bush League material. This shit is straight out of a carnival.

Thunderlips The Ultimate Male - I saw absolutely no footage or sign that Mayorga was training for this fight, which leads me to believe he knew it was not going to happen all along. Him and King probably planned this as some sort of publicity stunt to get his name out there again before starting a comeback after a 2 year layoff.

I don't agree with all of that...I don't think King was involved in any sense. Look to other promoters.

Thunderlips The Ultimate Male - Why do you not think so? He could have came in at any time and put a stop to all this yet he came in at the last moment. I think they both were in on this to try and get Mayorga's name out in the public again by some degree. Mayorga was not training and King stepped in at the last moment after they had milked this for all they could get out of it.

Don King may have simply been completely unaware of this whole thing till a few weeks ago, when he sent the cease & desist letter to Shine. He submitted that letter on May 4th, and Shine CONTINUED to promote the fight. In reality, Shine is a no name organization. It's not as if the UFC was trying to put on the fight; so we have no idea if Don King knew the fight was taking place, and WHEN he found out.

What could King possibly get out of this? Mayorga ends up looking a little bad for this, and in reality, it's to a tiny group of people who even knew this fight was taking place. Type up Mayorga and Thomas in Google. Top articles are from MMA sites or blog sites. It's not like the fight was getting coverage nationally on CBS, NBC and ESPN here. It was a tiny blip of a fight. Don King has no problems getting his fighters air time. He doesn't need to resort to some pan handling move by co-conspiring with some MMA promoter.

There is one person who could have made out great with this arrangement. Develop a show you know has no possibility of taking place. Sell as many tickets and ppv's as possible. Cancel main event but continue the show to collect money from fans. That person aint Don King

I  agree with HOLLYWOOD-MO  99.9% on this one...

every promoter knows to have that money in an escrow account. It's promoter 101. All the excuses given have yet to say why that money was not in the account. If Mayorga didn't fight, so what. They still should have had his purse available and in the escrow account.

frontrowbrian -  there was a fight card in San Diego in January 2008 with some high profile names that got shit canned the same day of the event because they didn't have the funds submitted to the CSAC to pay the fighters. It was called WCO.. World cagefighting Organization.

The event, dubbed “The Return,” was to feature Renato “Babalu” Sobral against Vernon “Tiger” White in the main event, as well as several other veteran fighters like Mark Kerr, David Loiseau, Ricco Rodriguez, Joe Riggs, and more.
