Reasons why nobody watches MMA anymore?

But I’ve enjoyed the last couple cards as well. Some badass scraps. One fc and rizin put on good shows, but I barely ever catch them.

For me, every fighter and every fight is about the same. Rarely is there anything new

Then sports isn’t for you

Baseball, basketball, football, mma, boxing, every single sport there isn’t anything really new

Too many events with too few fighters worth watching. Fighters picking easy money fights rather than competitive fights. WMMA.

I watched PFL on Friday night. Watched the UFC on ESPN last night. And last Saturday night I watched 275. I love it

Whos ever worked an event where you pad the guy down before they enter the ring / cage? What do you expect to find? A Glock or something?

Don’t underestimate how fucking bland the Reebok deal made it all

Definitely over saturation and lower quality cards, compared to back in the day.

I love MMA, boxing and other quality combat sports as much as ever.

Reebok was also symbolic of their shift in strategy to make it less about the individual fighters and just about the UFC brand.

Where are the 2 and 3 time national championship wrestlers like Josh Koscheck?

Where are the high level jiu jitsu guys like jacare or the gracies?

Maybe because MMA is so well rounded now you don’t see the specialists willing to cross over but thats part of the decline IMO.

Definitely, there was a point when it just all became generic and bland. You know when you go and see local fights and it’s just two guys walking in from a back dressing room. UFC has felt like that since the Reebok Deal. It makes it very hard for fighters to put forward their personality, and is the main reason very few stars are being born in my opinion

Ryan Hall is pretty high level. What are Ortegas BJJ credentials outside of MMA, he seems slick

I’m more of a fan now than ever. Idk OP, probably just you. The UFC is bringing in more revenue than ever and has the largest roster ever as well.

2021 was the most profitable year in company history

Started Muay Thai and kickboxing at 5, not that you would really know from his stand up since he’s more boxer heavy, and under the Gracies in BJJ since he was 13.

His first 8 UFC wins are split between KOs and subs so he’s pretty well rounded. He’s got subs against some of the best Jui Jitsu guys in the UFC (Cub and Renato), but was getting pieced up on the feet beforehand and was brutally beaten by both Max and Volk in two of his last few fights.

Edit: his jui jitsu is probably better than his stand up and he actually almost subbed Volk with his guillotine in their last fight, so in terms of specialist vs specialist like some people have been taking about, his next fight against Yair (TKD) is about as close as you’re gonna get to that.

The Fox deal was ok because we got BIG cards on normal TV that everyone could watch…

Then they restricted viewers by moving everything to fight pass and ESPN+, or PPV with 1 or 2 great fights on the main card. No real prospects or hype…

TLDR; They made it prohibitively hard to watch for a while, I found other shit to occupy that time, they never won my time back.

Every time I try to watch an event it’s…

-Here’s the Betting odds
-Thank you Draft kings
-And let’s check the Live odds

Rinse and repeat.

They shouldn’t feel the need to promote gambling so heavy on a sport that’s already exciting. Sports like horse racing need gambling, because the sport itself is so incredibly boring. I miss the days when they talked about the technical nuances and the stakes of the matchup instead of these dumb ass betting odds. But the UFC is over saturated with too many events and nobody cares like they used to, so I guess they need gambling to be an aspect of the sport

  1. The UFC has lost control of its major names/champions. The match-making is generally very good among rising contenders, but they start struggling to get them inside the cage once they reach a certain level.

  2. Forcing WMMA onto cards alongside men has significantly cheapened the sport. I used to be so envious of those fans that are able to watch live, but these days, I wouldn’t make it through a show if I couldn’t fast forward the women’s fights.
