I've been training BJJ since 2000. Purple belt under Marcos Flexa.
The more I learn, the more I start to use OLD SCHOOL moves.
-Single underhook guard break
-Stand up in base to stack pass
-Mount, finish with collar choke / armbar or americana
I was on a plateau for a while. I trained but I didn't feel my game improved. Since I rediscovered the old school my game has become SO much more balanced.
Never thought I'd get so enthousiastic about the most basic of basics. The small details that make positions work.

Old school stuff is "where it's at".
My game is like a page out of BJJ 101...mount, armbar, basic over the leg pass, RNC, triangle, basic butterfly sweep...the only thing I do that ISN'T old school is play half guard (or maybe the occasional banana split).
I do a lot of brabo chokes, other than that, it's all BJJ 101 stuff.

The flower sweep is my new old skool new move. Its funny how I forgot it.
I really don't think the Sao Paulo pass is "basic" at all.

the only moves i ever catch are the old school ones. except i catch that choke with my own gi from side mount that jacare used to do all the time.
other than that its the kimurs/armbar combos from north south ,the gi choke/smount/armbar combo from mount, bow and arrow choke or armbar/triangle/omaplata combo from guard.
By "old school" you mean basics?
