Now I'm not going to go and slam on the guy, he's a great fighter who's used his fat to his advantage on several occasions (ex. his fight with Randy), and has been quite successful in heaving his gut around the mat at ADCC. However, it's his whole persona.... "Ricco Suave"???? Gimme a fuckin break. Gerardo is gonna be 40 this year, and this guy's "suave" stops at his fucking shampoo. He stutters like an invalid on commentary, offers nothing intellectually, and trashes fighters he won't even step into a ring with off the record. What the fuck is that?
The only one who buys Ricco Gut-riguez's hype is himself. I respect him as a fighter and his abilities and records speak for themselves... but do I like the guy? Pfffft. When we were in Vegas for Barnett and Couture, Ricco was literally 4 feet away from us at one point as we chilled at the MGM Grand Sportsbook... he got blown the fuck off.

Anyone who's lived here in AZ for a few years can answer this one. Its because Ricco really was fat, he was 300 pounds not that long ago. When you've seen him that size, anytime he puts on weight you remember the old physique.
That said, he gets a lot of crap for two other reasons - on TV he always comes across as arrogant (case in point, announcing the Mir fight where he talked only about himself). And of course the one that's always mentioned - like Metzger, because he is considered to have a good looking face, he gets the classic "pretty boy" rep which fans of fighters don't generally like. Overall he's a really cool guy in person..
26 years means he's got 10-12 years left in him, possibly even more and he allready lost some serious weight. Give the guy a break.
