I agree on taking the easy fight/money, but there were another 6 Pride events before Rickson fought again in 2000. He sure as shit could’ve gotten paid to main event any of these. Calling out Coleman and then tucking was hilarious…

I used to be a Rickson mark, I’m not anymore but I will say this.
Anybody that expected Rickson to fight after Rockson died is a jerkoff. That just tells me that you don’t have kids.
One of my very best friends growing up died about 10 years ago, he was 28. At his funeral service, the preacher man said a child that loses a parent is called an orphan. A spouse that loses their partner is called a widow. Then he said there is no word for a parent losing a child because it’s too painful for words.

Was Sakuraba ,
1- the guy destroyed his family.
He beat up his brothers & Gracie always talked about honor & pride & warrior spirit
2 - Sakuraba had aura , he had charisma
He would have been a good matchup for Gracie. We all know Vanderli Silva or Chuck Liddell or Kerr or Igor V.

He could have made all the special rules he wanted too. He could have made sak cut weight. Could have outlawed soccer kicks and knees on the ground. He really could have “evened” the playing field with negotiations.

Apparently the fight was supposed to happen and contracts had been drawn up with a fight date. Rockson died then and the issue was completely dropped. Saku then lost a few fights starting with vanderlei in 2003 so pride also lost faith there.
I’d like to see a source for this.
Pretty sure that he was offered $5 million,but I never heard of a date.
