ROB KAMAN OR BENNY THE JET

WHO was the better stand up fighter pound for pound?

or

Is this a joke?

"The Jet's" professional fighting record stands at 200 plus wins and Zero (0) losses, his accomplished World Title Defense Record Stands at 63 wins and zero (0) losses, with "57 knockouts". Unprecedented in ring history, Benny "The Jet" is the only fighter to have retained Six World Championships in five weight divisions for 24 consecutive years. Coming out of retirement in 1993 at the age of 42, he again demonstrated his unique fighting style, defeating Yoshihisa Tagami the 25-year-old Japanese World Welterweight Champion to win the World Light Middle Weight Championship. "The Jet" is the longest reigning World Champion of all Professional Sports in history.

"they both were dumbass.."

clearly it was a typo

anyway i thought this was a forum-somewhere where questions can be asked to increase general fight knowledge...or was i wrong...dumbass..

Kaman. He fought all comers in all rules. Benny was more...selective about who he fought, what rules, and when it counted towards his record and when it didn't.

That, and Kaman just had better technique, frankly.

Interesting point about Benny the jet he fought nhb in the 70's Ithink. winning a tournament in Hawaii. Can't remember where I read this Bas's big book of combat I think.

In that case i officially challenge O.J. Finnegan to a duel

Very good interview with Rob Kaman, where he talks about alot of his fights

Benny Urquidez came from a fighting family and was also a black belt in Judo.  I consider myself very fortunate to have seen him fight many times in person.  Kumite Benny!!

Gary Hughes

Benny won the World Martial Arts Championship in 1975 which was basically a NHB tournament.

Blinky Rodriguez is Benny's brother in law.

Kaman did beat Changpuek once, but lost to him 3 times.

my shihan told me he once got to spar with Benny that that his kicks were some of the best and hardest hes ever felt\seen..

"Benny won the World Martial Arts Championship in 1975 which was basically a NHB tournament."

Any footage of this? I've never heard of it.

Benny was way tougher than his cousin Blinky.

"Benny won the World Martial Arts Championship in 1975 which was basically a NHB tournament."

Are you referring to the World Martial Arts Championship in 1975 that was held at Madison Square Garden in NYC ?

Benny did indeed fight in that championship. One match against a "Bando" stylist named Tyree Casell.

Jet won the match by DQ, when Tyree did his best "butt scoot" with upkicks. Benny avoided them. The referee continually warned Casell to get on his feet and fight. Casell kept dropping down and butt scooted and was DQ'd.

The event was no where near to being an NHB tourney. It was an American Kickboxing / Full Contact Karate event.

Ask Kirik - he'll tell you.

This is the only info I could find on that 70's MMA thing:

W"ORLD OF MARTIAL ARTS 12/2074 12/21/74
Convinced that Full Contact was the way to go, Benny Urquidez entered the World Series of Martial Arts in 1974. There were 58 entries including Boxers, Wrestlers, Street Fighters, Sumo Wrestlers and Martial Artists. The rules allowed everything including elbows, knees, and head butting. The Grand Championship was worth $5000. In the first day Urquidez and Dana Goodsen* were knocking everyone out. On the second day people were badly injured and pulling out which left 10 entrants left in the competition. Urquidez defeated Goodsen by third round decision (not by fourth round KO as Urquidez has claimed).

*DANA GOODSEN (now deceased)

Benny Urquidez claims to have knocked Dana Goodsen out in Tommy Lee's World Series of Martial Arts Championships. The Championship took place in 1974 (not 1973 as Urquidez has stated). Benny has said he knocked Goodsen out in the fourth round. Urquidez did not knock Goodsen out and all the fights in the event were fought over 3 rounds, not 4. This was Dana's first professional fight. Goodsen had 3 grueling rounds with Blinky Orderlies before meeting Urquidez. On the other hand Urquidez had had fought and won a TKO in the fight before meeting Goodsen."

No mention of grappling or throwing...not sure if it was MMA or just a stand up thing.

Why is it that everytime I read about Benny, there's some kind of exaggeration or outright lie about his record? Lets not forget he came out AGAINST the UFC in the early days in a Black Belt article.

"In a fight against Prayoud Sittiboonlert, another Thai boxer, Urquidez's corner threw in the towel after the second round; Urquidez claims that this was only an exhibitional fight."

"Charusarn took the Middleweight Title with dojomate Manuel Urquidez* bowing out giving the Thai the title.
(*I do not understand how the Urquidez family has a Thai boxer, Charusarn, training in their camp in 1974, yet prior to Benny's bout with Narongnoi Kiatbandit (1977), Benny Urquidez claims to have never heard of 'Muay Thai". It does not sound right.)"

Classic Benny.

A page full of Benny Urquidez clips, including two losses.

"Are you referring to the World Martial Arts Championship in 1975 that was held at Madison Square Garden in NYC ? "

I'm referring to the Tommy Lee event held in Hawaii in 1974.

I didn't know that Dana Goodson passed away, I remember seeing him fight also.  RIP
