The first three months of 2023 were memorable for Mexican UFC fans, with three of their country’s fighters being crowned champions.

Two of them, UFC flyweight kingpin Brandon Moreno and interim featherweight titleholder Yair Rodríguez, are set to be back in action this July as part of a blockbuster UFC 290 card in International Fight Week.
The main event spotlight will be on Rodríguez, who will look to secure undisputed status by becoming the first to defeat reigning 145-pound kingpin Alexander Volkanovski at featherweight.

Ahead of their contest on July 8, the Australian has publicly acknowledged the challenge in front of him, making note of his Mexican peer’s unique and eccentric striking game.

Unsurprisingly, Volkanovski isn’t the only one taken aback by some of Rodríguez’s weapons

Rogan Brands Rodríguez ‘F*cking Wicked’

During a recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, the UFC color commentator assessed the UFC 290 pay-per-view card along with a number of guests.

On the headliner, Rogan had high praise for the interim champ and his abilities, both in the standup realm and on the mat.
And when the conversation turned to a viewing of the Mexican’s best highlights, the renowned podcast host was seemingly in awe of “El Pantera.”

"Look at that, Alexander Volkanovski versus Yair Rodríguez… Have you seen Yair Rodríguez fight? Yair Rodríguez is one of the wildest motherfckers that’s ever fought in MMA," Rogan said. "Yair has some of the craziest kicks. He’s got this Taekwondo background, but he does all this wild sht. He hit BJ Penn with a 360 roundhouse kick.

“Look at this motherfcker," Rogan exclaimed whilst watching the Mexican’s highlights. "He kicked him with the right, and then in the air hits him with the left. He’s a beast. He’s so dynamic. His striking and on the ground. He finished Josh Emmett with a triangle… On the ground he’s nasty. He is fcking wicked… really hard to figure out. Everything he does is different… f*cking genius.”
Rodríguez will no doubt be hoping to add another memorable highlight to his career on MMA’s biggest stage at the expense of Volkanovski at UFC 290.

Should that come to fruition in Las Vegas, Rogan will likely have a front-row seat given his position as color commentator for domestic PPV cards.
