Can anyone tell/show me what the Ryan Hall hip shovel is? I was going through the BJJ threads I've subscribed to and there was one where MANY people said that Ryan Hall's hip shovel changed their game overnight.
I googled before I made this thread and found that it seems to be on his deep half guard video. I think I already know what the hip shovel is in deep half. The person who brought it up in the old thread said he could do it from side control and hipping in changed his game everywhere.
In side control, overhook his leg with your far leg then just hip switch?
You basically walk your legs towards theirs in side control, until your his literally 'shovel' under their base. It's a nice reversal and covered in his deep half DVD. The principle involved us essentially driving yourself under someone's base will lead to a destruction of base and balance will be very difficult to maintain.
Large marge sent me - He'll show it to you in person if you ask for a discount on the videos

marceloo garcia says he's worked on moves for 4-5 yrs before they really started to show up in his game.
just keep at 'er.
it's good stuff.
i've never made it work in sidecontrol, but i use the concept all the time in my half guard game or defending passes.
Is it like the 10th Planet jail break?

No, nothing like it. The movement is actually similar to that of the Homer Simpson sweep, but you don't have a half guard, and you're walking into the opponent's legs and cutting underneath his base.
I keep trying to imagine doing this in my mind and I end up getting full mounted each time.
It can be used to escape modified scarf hold, Paul Shreiner actually does it several times to Marcelo on MGInAction.
