If a blue would be so kind
What say you?
Looks like he got screwed
I think he had the hooks in for sure. Can't believe how boring the first part was. For those interested just fast forward to the end.
Edited to say: I know the feet were crossed but it looked like he uncrossed them and also how does crossed feet mean you don't have the back?

Someone correct me if I am wrong but to get the points for a back take you have to secure the back with hooks in for 3 seconds. Is this a good rule - that is another debate for another time but if that is the way the rule is set for this tournament then Hall lost fair and square.
I do not know why having the feet crossed means you do not have the back but in this tournament that is what it meant.
The guy who beat him is bruno amorim, trained with him a couple times, super cool guy. beat jt torres in finals of brown belt mundials in 2009, and then got triangled by him at houston open. i think ryan should have gotten points, but what surprised me the most was how fast bruno passed his guard, it was like the only attempt he made entire match and he just slid right around the leg into side control.
Oh I was watching with the sound off and thought the match went on longer than it did. He certainly didn't have them uncrossed for three seconds before the whistle sounded. Carry on. Still a lame rule but we all know how far those conversations get us.

Seemed like a great match for the last 2mins everything else was a disaster
ultimatestreetfighter - the 1st 7 minutes of this is one dude upside down with legs dangling. what kind of faggotry is this? is this what bjj has become?
where are you people training that dont know about no point with legs crossed? To bad that guy didnt bust his ankles, ryans hurt more people then anyone since he started competing, damn wish that guy trapped his ankles and broke one, at least
easy call, the forum hero lost and made a beautiful art looks like a mess, what a disaster and how things go when you think basics dont work
I hope Rose Gracie and the other people outside of the IBJJF running tournaments do well. Sport BJJ is becoming grotesque. Not fun to watch and not what was originally intended.
That was a fighting art
The rule sucks.
I thought the throw that started from bottom of side control was the highlight of the match.
never heard so much booing after match in bjj
and never though ryan was capable of such colorful language after a match. was standing next to him in the bullpen after the match. he was pretty pissed haha
I don't follow sport BJJ and if I saw this shit 16years when I started I would have never bothered to train. Why would anyone want to learn/train this shit?
has anyone ever played a more hateable style than ryan hall
sad thing is as soon as he stops playing like a mo, he throws the guy and nearly takes his back
Did Ryan Hall just Osoto Gari that guy?
I am very surprised and impressed.
As for the inverted stuff, I'm sure Ryan had some kind of gameplan to keep playing like that.
Sgt. Slaphead - WTF is this??

How can you hate on inverted guard !? Watch his ADCC matches and Grapplers quest with 50/50 etc . Ryan should of won . He had the guys back for over 3 seconds . I know the IBJJF rules say no points with a. Crossed feet but he uncrossed them ..
Jimenez - Ryan should of won . He had the guys back for over 3 seconds . I know the IBJJF rules say no points with a. Crossed feet but he uncrossed them ..
Yes he did uncross them, but they weren't uncrossed for the 3 seconds needed.
I always think it's odd that Ryan did that interview a couple of years ago where he said that basic jiu-jitsu is the key, but yet still plays a completely opposite game in comps.
James
stopped watching 45 seconds in.

If you watch ryan in IBJJF tournies hes restricted bc hes a heelhook guy .
And if you watch his ADCC or Grapplers quest matches you see a different ryan hall .
