Sakuraba could have been all-time greatest

Size - ^It's a dumb comparison, though, because we're talking pound for pound. Sure, Wand probably takes out Royce quicker and gives just as hard of a fight to Igor, but he was bigger than Sak, and didn't have such an easy time in his first fight against Sak either.

So you only count the wins to the bigger guys but not the losses?

Wand was not that much bigger than Sak either.

Who was saks biggest win? Phone Post

Well I count guys wins a lot more than their losses in general, I think most people do in this sport. Does that go a little moreso when there's a size mismatch? You bet. Wanderlei was cutting weight to make 205.

Sak's biggest win? Well I think being the first one to figure out how to beat Gracie, and doing it under the Gracie rule-set was huge. It gets my pick, but if you wanted to say his win over Vitor fresh off of his :44 second highlight KO of Wand, or his sub over Rampage which was the only sub loss of his career until Jones, I wouldn't argue with you.

His first round (15 min.) draw against Igor (Sak unable to answer the bell for the overtime round) in the semi-final of the Pride GP the same night of the 90 minute win over Royce is his most impressive accomplishment though, in my opinion. Igor was 40-2 and ranked #1 HW in the world at the time.

So him not being able to answer the bell is impressive because igor couldn't finish him but him beating Royce because Royce couldnt answer the bell is his most impressive win. Let's not forget who won the rematch. Either way beating Royce in

He beat rampage before rampage even trained bjj. That was in between smashings from wand. Let's also not forget about niño schembri ko'ing him.

Also his win I've belfort was because vitor broke his hand early and basically quit. I mean watch the fight. That's not how vitor fights.

Like I said saku is a legend and the ballsiest fighter of all time, he's just not a goat. Phone Post

I won't even justify this pile of horseshit by reading it....sakuraba is a motherfucking legend....deal with it... Phone Post

So you agree? Phone Post

Saku-Igor was a draw through round 1, and Saku couldn't answer the bell for the second round due to being worn out from the Gracie fight much moreso than due to the first round with Igor.

Gracie couldn't answer the bell for the seventh round of a fight that was unlimited 15 minute rounds to a finish because Sakuraba beat him up.

Saku and Royce were both washed up in the rematch, so who cares about that, let alone the fact that it was a 15 minute points decision. Royce also tested positive for steroids, which you'd use to diminish a win or further diminish a loss for Sakuraba if that went the other way.

Carry on your troll.

GSP24 - He's #17 on bleacher reports list from October.

He really over stayed his welcome and his career at the end really put a black eye on his being considered one of the greatest, IMO. Big heart and above average skill. Phone Post

Above average skill!!! That's an understatement, his wrestling for Mma was so silky and way ahead of his time Phone Post

You're right, I forgot about the steroids.

So saku was goat for what 3 years? And in that three year span he got destroyed 3x by the same guy in the same division....makes a lot of sense Phone Post

Sak > Anderson.

Sakuraba was a 185-er, and that division didn't really exist. He was probably the best pound for pound talent in the sport at one time, certainly the best at his weight, but he ended up fighting above his weight division due to the landscape of the sport at the time. Was he ever the best fighter competing at 205 or HW? Of course not.

He was also the biggest reason Pride and MMA became so popular in Japan, the most lucrative place of employment for a generation of fighters.

UGCTT_zackthewop - Saku fans at the worst. He was really good but was destroyed in his prime by a guy in the same weight division.

Wand is ahead on the goat list easily

youre a clueless n00b faggot

first off, what youre assuming was his prime was most likely actually past it. guy went through the ringer.

he was a natural 185er that fought mostly guys 20-50lbs heavier. he broke the shoulders of several gracies with the same move. he came to the ring with a different theme each time he fought. he drank. he smoked.

saku was the fucking man.

go back to sherdog and jerking off to frank mir, you pasty, greasy, guinea faggot

Sak was and is the greatest of all time! He was natural welterweight/middleweight who beat the best of the best WW, MW, LHW and HWT in that era.

Henderson and Bustamonte would have run through the gracies faster and more violently than Sakuraba. They were the real 2 best lb. for lb. kings at that time.

saku is awesome, but anderson and mayweather might be ahead of him.

Saku's turtle position would have been awesome under unified rules to bad fate had him getting kneed on soccer kicked on the ground by larger opponents instead.

vastly different periods in the sport, and both men are champions under vastly different circumstances.

youre clueless if you are comparing their records. though honestly i do feel bad for you guys that just dont get it.....it truly was an amazing time in mma.

fuck, i miss PRIDE

He already is. Phone Post

Amazing fighter. Pretty sure I heard he mostly smoked and drank for his training, and to do the things he did. Amazing.

His takedowns were some of the sickest ever, and his spirit is second to none.
