the whole brother thing was a little much for me. its a wanna be rocky in my opinion.
i bet it doesnt do very well.
Really, I saw it twice and loved it both times. The story was as you say somewhat leodramatic, but the fights and acting were awesome!
it felt like they were trying to get women into the theaters.
i thought the fights in never back down were better.
Critics are loving it, it's got 82% from the "Top Critics" at Rotten Tomatoes (e.g., people at major newspapers and magazines as opposed to blogs and such).
It's a huge step up from "Never Back Down" and similar garbage. I hope it does very well. MMA could do a lot worse in terms of how it's portrayed on the big screen. It sure seems a lot more crowd-friendly and MMA-community friendly than s/t like Redbelt.
Heading to see it tonight, will post thoughts after...
NONE SO,
Agree on some levels.
Its a movie critics movie, but not a fight fan movie. I loved the MIRACLES and had high hopes this would blow my mind. But i found myself waiting for them to fight. The story could have been exchanged with a high school football player and no one would have noticed.
MMA was just a prop within the film.

Yup, just like boxing was a prop in Rocky. Not being facetious - Rocky, Rudy, Karate Kid, etc., are all the same, the sport chosen is just the vehicle for the real storyline. I'm glad to see someone treating it somewhat respectfully as opposed to s/t goofy (e.g., Rocky was fairly respectful of boxing, but Gladiator {the one with Cuba Gooding} was not).
The main focus of Warrior is NOT MMA, it is more what happens to kids who are raised by a violent father and struggle to find meaning in "being a man" (which is tough when the man you grow up with is a violent asshole).
You can tell by the marketing that they aren't aiming to bring in hardcore mma fans expecting a bloodbath. I saw a commercial the other day for it and it was a bunch of women saying how great it was. Fortunately my wife saw the same commercial and wants to see it too.
Just saw "Warrior" - SurprisingÂly good. It's really about what the middle class is going through.
It has some sports cliches but the cast is great. Your ladies will like it more than they realize. Ladies were crying and clapping when I was watching it.
wtf power slams and brothers fighting each other ...sorry sounds stupid to me
Never Back Down to this day is still the best MMA movie. People give it shit, but it's a simple loosely derived Karate Kid story with good and frequent MMA action. That is all it takes to make a good MMA centered movie. The "critically acclaimed" sports films are often interwoven with heavy relationships angles that interferes with the pure MMA storyline.
I saw it and thought it was a very good movie. Hits home on a lot of people's struggles in life. Good drama and story. Lots of plot lines that hit home. Would recommend as a movie. Don't go thinking it's an MMA movie though b
Looks like the consensus is that it is a movie with MMA in it and not an MMA movie.

Never Back Down reigns!!
CAINtheBULL - Just saw "Warrior" - Surprisingly good. It's really about what the middle class is going through.

LOTS of people crying at my show, and not for the reasons some might think (e.g., the fights) - the scenes with the sons showing their hate/ anger/ disappointment in their dad were rough to watch, and I had a good dad - I can't imagine how hard that hit people with shitty dads...

This.
It would have been no different had the brothers been boxers, wrestlers, tennis guys, jai alai players, whatever - MMA was just the vehicle to move the real storylines about forgiveness, redemption, courage, etc.
None So Blind - Critics are *loving* it, it's got 82% from the "Top Critics" at Rotten Tomatoes (e.g., people at major newspapers and magazines as opposed to blogs and such).

I liked redbelt (don't know if I should admit that thought). From what I've seen and heard it looks like a good film. I'm just waiting for the Kevin James mma film.
seriously he fights his brother and they do power slams and some people on this board like this movie
You guys should watch Never Back Down 2, terrible movie, but the fight scenes were the best I've seen in an MMA movie.
Stars Todd Duffee and has a cameo from Lyoto Machida.
Winston Wolf - seriously he fights his brother and they do power slams and some people on this board like this movie
I suppose you like movies where the fights are like Kimo vs. Severn? ;-)
And yeah, the two brothers fighting is a stretch, but the rationale for it isn't all that impossible (e.g. one is a replacement for the major fighter from his gym who goes down with an injury, the other is an internet sensation war hero), and (MILD SPOILER) most people don't know they are brothers until the very end - they don't have the same names, they live in different cities, and they don't talk to each other.
