If you were not around here when the Lion’s Den members were posting…how did you find out about this place to sign up?
The Underground = very popular
submissionfighting.com,mixedmartialarts.com & mma.tv not so much.
Was looking for my interview Scott Bessac first-born Lion and like always can’t work the internet for and somehow ended up on a lion’s den topic there was a error the post logged on real quick fixed the error…and stayed.lol.
Hey Scott thanks again for the thread,Wow that amount of Norcos a day ive heard similar stories and seen it,(I work in a hospital in SF) when you quit, cold turkey how did you manage those insane withdrawals? Can you tell us a bit about it if you dont mind?I ask with all due respect because with your frontal lobe being gone was the hellish effects minimized? Or is that different from emotional feelings? I swear im not a dumbass😂just trying to see if theres a link with that or was for you. Glad you stopped by the way!
Names? In see a few would like to know all,I got 5 and think a few others would like to read up on all
It is a good question. My brain does exactly what it wants to if it wants to take norcos for 16yrs then just one day stop and never even think about them again for the next 20yrs it does. My brain is wired more primal then normal people. Whatever problem that needs to be fixed gets fixed. No problem is bargained with, forgiven or kept over control. Swift immediate problem ended. This goes for all problems
Thanks for answering,so basically when you stopped there was no back n forth, you did it and that was that🤯were the physical withdrawals just seen as they needed to happen?Interesting man, because from what i see these withdrawals with nothing administered like short tapered Buprenorphine, and blood pressure meds people lose their shit! And its painful and unbearable for afew days to a couple weeks depending on the substance/opiate used.So in a way your emotional state did have an effect over all on the withdrawals? Interesting as hell man!
I’m not trying to be cute here but I think you might actually be a psychopath.
They have a lot of the same symptoms as a sociopath but a few differences.
- does the idea of that offend you in the slightest
- do you ever feel embarrassment.
Can you joke about yourself at your own expense under a given situation.

Appreciate the responses. I’ve finally crossed 40 years on the planet and at that first HooknShoot I was 15 and still some of the best times.
I will fill in some blanks for the Dave/Lance fight though. Scott Sullivan stepped in to stop the fight when Lance was mauling him badly and Dave looks up and asks “why?”…big mistake. I’m sure by this point he’s concussed and dazed but Sullivan backed off and let it continue and you can hear people including Jeff calling for the stoppage as Lance dropped those last few monster hanmer fists.
I had my first MMA fight around 5 years after that night but holy shit, seeing that up close at that point in my life was the clear reminder that it is very, very real and bad shit can happen.
Dave was as nice a guy I had ever met. Not a killer in the least bit. I found him a few years ago on social media and he had a bout with cancer that he overcame. I also reached out and let my friend know I shouldn’t have made fun of him but he also says you denied his autograph request because you were relaxing before the fights the next day and he could come see you then…so now I gave him shit again.
Every person experiences different response to cutting meds. I was on morphine, Oxy, Soma (back injury from the Corps) during treatment and anxiety meds. When I started feeling terrible about how they made me feel, I knew I had to cut it out of my life. I had very little side effects from the literal stoppage of cold turkey opiates. But the benzos messed with my body and head for months. They really did a number on me. I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone.
Thanks Crowbar! I knew that was Dan Freeman from TUF 3 but couldnt remember the name of Roberts and Rocca, And thank you for answering that Harlem much appreciated and glad you got past those WDs.Wow you didnt feel much when leaving the opiates! Its crazy how Benzos are more deadlier withdrawal wise from what I seen and read, its pretty much a done deal that people will be on them for life once on.I heard it can take months to even feel normal again, like no sleeping, paranoia, panic attacks, and stroke like symptoms for months!

Firstborn Lion: The Scott Bessac Interview, Part 1
May 21, 2016 — Scott Bessac was the first student of Ken Shamrock and was there at the beginning of what we know today as Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).
Here’s part three:
This’ll be going into my PWFG/Pancrase interview books in a much easier to read format at this point
Nice. I was a Lions Den member. Made the team as teenager. Had a few fights UFC. Coaching now at American Top Team. I remember everything. Circa 2000-2002
Did you train with Tony Galindo at all?
Scott, could you please talk about your interactions with Bas?
Thank you very much for this thread.
Were you jumped in? What’s the worst beating you witnessed during training?
So why do an AMA then if you are going to bitch out and not answer half the questions?
Whatever happened to being a brave viking warrior but you are afraid of someone’s ex wife?
No after intense interviews and cognitive behavior exercises I was deemed not a psychopath. I have the ability to distinguish right from wrong. I understand the difference between reality and fantasy and I am bonded by the codes I ĺive by,no exceptions and no latitude. What I do is nessacary not random impluses from thing a that happened to me. I consider Psychopaths as rabid dogs that need to be put down. With a rabid dog you don’t negotiate with it talk it down or reason with it you simply put it down. Which is t he most humane to do. Have dealt with alot of psychopath s in my life and the humane option is to end their suffering. No different than killing a rabbit that was hit on the road still alive but suffering. A real man helps him and moves on
