Scott Bessac OG MMA/Lion’s Den AMA

I was the only lion’s den fighter in Ken’s corner when he fought lobeman. That was a Pancrase match up. I think you can guess how sparring one of the greatest Thai boxers, kickboxers, held the kickboxing belt forever, extreme challenge champion, k-1champion and ufc champion. Let’s just say he taught me alot, most of what I know about Muay Thai but it came with a price. Constant unrelenting pain when we sparred but we’ll worth it.

So both Mezger and Frank have wins over Tito.

Ken lost to Tito, but was obviously not the same fighter he used to be.

A lot of “fans” use these fights to argue that Frank is somehow greater than Ken, and that maybe Ken wasn’t that great to begin with.

What is your opinion on that situation – and more importantly – how would Tito have faired against a prime late 90s Ken Shamrock?

Mo did help us with cardio pacing.he could slow his heart when he fought

Awesome.

Big fan of Mo Smith!

Do you have any insight as to why Ken decided to take a kickboxing rules match with Lobeman?

I thought Ken did good considering the rules.
Lobeman was world-class.
You can almost see Ken wanting to take him down!

Looking back, and considering the injuries/wear you mentioned earlier – do you wish you guys had taken a lighter approach to training?

How about non-training/fighting stories?

For example:
I have heard that Vernon had a way with women…

Are there any funny or weird stories you want to share about you or any of the guys outside of training??

The big question everyone asks. Under no rules,in no universe, in any situation would Ken in his prime and frank in is prime be anything more than depending on Ken’s mood a complete and total, bloody and vicious spectacle of Ken committing horrifying acts of extreme violence against frank. A criminal investigation might be launched. Don’t ever get it twisted in myth, rumor or over hyped bullshit that frank would have had a remote chance. For frank the only part of that fight that would turn out okay was that he lived cuz Ken hadn’t beat him to death. Real talk,no favorite fighters or anything else just Ken destroying frank.

Honestly we didn’t know how. Ken enjoyed hurting guys when I learned I enjoyed it to. We were what we were .couldn’t have changed it

I know this…

…but not everyone agrees.

I saw it in Frank’s eyes watching his documentary… and knew it even before that.

There is an aspect of being a smaller more agile fighter that lends itself to more “impressive” dynamic movement.
People sometimes mistake this for superiority.
But there are weight classes for a reason.

I don’t see Frank mixing it up with guys like Severn, Kimo, Fujita, Frye, etc…the way that Ken did.
I’m not saying Frank couldn’t find ways to win.
But there is just a difference in physical power there that a lot of people don’t seem to understand.

Thanks for the response.

Makes perfect sense.

Ok…

So what about Tito Ortiz vs a 90s Ken Shamrock?

Ken would smash him ,no doubt

Thanks for the responses.

Are you going to keep up with the thread, or were you just on for today?

Hey thanks OP for arranging this thread!

I could talk old-school NHB/MMA all day, and not be bothered at all with whatever is happening currently!

Thread should be a sticky.

Thanks for the responses. What do you think led to Ken’s sudden deterioration as a fighter?

2nd Question(s): What do you do for a living now? Do you think the UFC should do more to aid pioneering fighters who may have physical issues or financial issues; and/or provide some financial guidance to current fighters?

I wrote a book and had a 6 figure retainer to write it and then it turned into a movie script also. After writing it I took a look at it from a normal person’s perspective and decided the book stays with me. We all have kids and grandkids. And I never white wash anything so in the end. My book will expose things that our children and grandchildren and legit fans really don’t need to know. So I tell the real no bullshit truth. Yeah I’ll make a real shit ton of money but Cimone and I used to babysit Ken and Tina’s kids all the time sometimes a week at a time. I am not going to subject those little guys to our depravity. They grown now but I find no reason to give all our children and grandchildren more of a reason to be disappointed in us. I will answer all your questions but I’m not putting what we did back then on blast in a book or movie. It would ruin some guys revenue they get from mma and destroy families so ask me here cuz the book dies with me

I’m retired and was forced to when I was 37 due to massive brain damage. Nah fuck Dana white and the snowflakes that own the UFC now. I don’t need shit from them

His 2nd fight with Severn he fought to not lose, that’s the end for a fighter. His being famous took over for his wanting to fight.sad but true
