it wasnt coker who brought female mma to the forefrunt it was Gary Shaw. Coker Inherited what Gary did. Coker wasnt even the one who signed Ronda Rousey... Rousey was signed after the SF purchase and sean shelby (ufc's matchmaker) was calling the shots then.
You guys saw it Dana said there would be no woman fighters ever in the UFC and then a year later he puts them on as a main event over Henderson and Machida??? Isn't that a pretty big slap in the face to 2 former champions and UFC legends?

You said he talked smack about them, saying they wont be in the UFC and then a year latter they are isnt talking smack.
I wonder, is putting Dodson/MM above a legend like Rampage a smack in the face?
the credit Ill give Scott Coker was the vision of a HW grand prix... even though it fell apart he accidentally stumbled onto something that would revolutionize fight sports. Events that only feature one weight class.
Outlaw'd by Lytle -
Dana hated WMMA then he met Ronda and fell in love.
I think it's cute.
VTFU.. this is soooo true...Dana is like a giddy middle school boy with a chubby when he's around her
Or maybe he sees an opportunity to help his promotion grow and he sees a potential star he can make money off of and who can possibly cross over in ways male fighters cant.
Dana is being hypocrite on that matter. Goes on and on for years, saying that WMMA won't be in the UFC, because the talent isn't deep enough.
Now it finally is, but to be honest I don't think the talent pool has increased significantly. As somebody pointed out, women fighting will never be as exciting as men's. No shame in that. For the same reasons nobody watches WNBA. Compared to NBA it's shit, no matter how hard they will try.
Dana would be very happy with Gina, but she got beat and left to make movies. Then was Cyborg, but she was too ugly and manly to headline something like that. And now it's Rhonda - excellent fighter, interesting personality and she has sufficient looks - isn't pretty, but she doesn't look like a man.
Problem is right now - Rhonda can't lose. There's nobody else in WMMA that can draw numbers even close to hers so if she falls, she's taking whole WMMA with her.
What's going to happen to coker when strike force folds. Is he still going to be employed by zuffa?
I really loved strike force and what he and others did with it in the 08-2010 era. My first strike force was the le vs shamrock and I loved the events they put on especially after the elite xc purchase.
Too bad zuffa swooped in and cleaned it out and put it on life support.
rrefs - Dana should have let Women MMA in Strikeforce grow a little more before he bought it.
One has nothing to do with the other. The SF owners wanted out. They wanted to sell. That's a pretty good indication that SF had no growth plans for womens OR mens MMA.

Okay D241 to answer your question how a promoter can over promote. For one Dana was anti women's MMA for years. When asked about it he on more than one occassion said we would never see women fighters in the UFC ever. Then he does a complete 180 and basically over compensates for being anti women's MMA by acting like a 12 year school boy who's in love walking arm and arm with Ronda at every event and every media outlet. He's putting all his eggs in one basket and having woman's MMA put on Ronda's shoulders to carry. It's just very risky D241 - he should be promoting more than just woman fighter at the moment. Let the press get to know a few more of them that way if Ronda loses then it's no big deal but at the moment it's like Kimbo Slice was at Pro Elite. They put the entire organization on his shoulders to carry and one punch from Seth crumpled the organization. Obviously the UFC isn't going to crumple overall but the woman's MMA will take a big hit if Ronda loses anytime soon with all the hype Dana has built up for Ronda.
