                    <blockquote>

Sean Sherk isn’t ready to retire, but when he is he hopes that his resume will send him into the UFC Hall of Fame.

“I’m not walking away, but if I were to walk away, I’ve done enough in my career to be happy with what I’ve accomplished,” Sherk said recently on the Sherdog Radio Network. “I think I’ve cemented my place in this industry [through] everything I’ve done inside and outside the gym, and I’ve cemented my place in the UFC. I hope to be a Hall of Famer some day. That’s my goal.”

A former UFC lightweight champion, Sherk has won nearly 40 bouts in more than a decade of fighting. In the midst of all those highs, he has had a few lows. In 2007 he tested positive for a steroid, though he denied using the banned substance. At another point, he had to step away from the sport because MMA had not yet exploded in popularity and he wasn’t making enough money.

“It wasn’t something I wanted to do. I was forced to leave because there was no money in this industry,” Sherk explained. “There was no sponsorship. There were no MMA expos. There were not very many gyms around the country. There was no seminars, no appearances. … There was nothing really going on in this industry. It was still growing, and I had to walk away because I had a house. I had to pay bills.”

nope

I definitely don't think he should be in the HoF.

Are you guys crazy? He is a HOFer

he can buy a ticket

For a guy that hasn't finished a fight in the UFC in 9 years - it'd be a joke to put him in.

Son of Scott Ferrozzo - For a guy that hasn't finished a fight in the UFC in 9 years - it'd be a joke to put him in.
Lets say Edgar continued on his same path for the next 3 years... would he deserve to go?

 Not even close.

Hughes, GSP, Diaz, Florian, Hermes, BJ, Tyson, Frankie, Dunham.... all guys he's fought in UFC since his last finish and they're ALL guys who are notoriously hard to beat much less finish.

Which is why he has no right to be in the HoF. Several of those guys have been finished by guys who will never be considered for the HoF. Sherk is just a lay and pray specialist. While he's good at that, he doesn't deserve a HoF spot.

Request ban of poster for fighter bashing and disrespecting a legendary mMa pioneer.

Relax, I'm not bashing him. I just don't think he belongs in the HoF for the reasons I've stated. Why are you such a crybaby?

He's a legend, he's a pioneer, but he's not a HoFer

He said he wants to be a HoFer. Read, douches. That's his goal for future fights.

Pernicious - He's a legend, he's a pioneer, but he's not a HoFer

pioneer of what???

Sherk is a top flight fighter. He is certainly leaving his mark on the fight game. I'm going to wait until he retires before considering qualifications for UFC Hall of Fame.

I wouldn't rule him out. :)

The sport. Dude made a go of it during the dark ages.

Also, he was one of the first lighter weight fighters to use a quick pace and top position pressure to break people. And he did it @ 170 for a large portion of his career.

Say whatever you want about Sherk, but the guy has one of the most impressive resumes in the sport. The guy has fought virtually everyone and anyone worth mentioning in his weight classes.

His losses in his career include a prime Hughes and a physically larger GSP, a P4P champion and legend in BJ Penn, and the current LW champion in Frankie Edgar.

He's completely out-worked and imposed his will on virtually everyone else he's ever fought, and for a guy with 40+ victories, that says something.

HOF or not, his career deserves a lot more respect than some of the newb trash are giving him on this site.

hmmmmmmmm don't see it.....

should drop to 135lbs and give it a go

TRUTH

Sherk is one of the most overlooked guys in MMA history.  4 losses in 40+ fights, ONLY to fighters who have been UFC champ and defended their title at least once.

Horn first?
