Regarding last fight against Jason "Mayhem" Miller:
Shields: I think I could have done a little bit more on my part, but I think part of it is the U.S. fan perspective on grappling. There were quite a bit of reversals, passes, sweeps, but I think the U.S. fans have difficulty understanding that somewhat.
Regarding a fight with GSP:
Shields: It is important. I feel like I have to fight him unless someone beats him. To be the best, you have to fight the best, and GSP is for sure considered to be the best. It would be awesome if we could get that together in a co-promotion, and the way Strikeforce is going, who knows, it could happen.
At some point you have to look and weigh your options between money and fighting the best. Hopefully it will happen, but at this point I just have to concentrate on my Strikeforce contract and after that I will sit down with my managers and we’ll figure out what I want to do.
Regarding GSP being interested in fighting Shields at a recent Q&A session before UFC 105:
Shields: He mentioned that it was his dream fight, you know. He mentioned Brock Lesnar vs. Fedor and him against me, which is awesome because it shows me that in his mind I’m the best guy he hasn’t faced. I have wanted that fight for a while, but it’s nice for him to say that he wants it as well.
I don't think Shields beats many if any of the top/A level guys in the UFC (Alves, Fitch, GSP, Kos, Hardy, Swick, Kampmann, Condit, Hughes, Thiago, Saunders, etc.) but I'd love to see him try. Hopefully he's serious about look at the UFC when his current contract is up.

wow you drank the kool aid, huh?
He couldn't even beat Kampmann, who Semtex beat the piss out of?

Holy shit that's retarded.
I think he loses to GSP and Fitch but he is every bit as good or better than the rest of those niggas.
Fitch basically fights as a pure grappler and Shields submitted him last time they grappled. Shields subbed Daley who destroyed "top contender" Kampmann. Shields already beat Condit who will probably climb the ranks (interesting you included him on your list of guys Jake can't beat). He beat Lawler in seconds whom most thought would be a top competitor if he returned to the UFC.
Shields is a very good wrestler with (in Rogan's words) "top of the food chain" grappling. He would do fine.

Call me loco, but I think Kos' wrestling gives him trouble as well. Otherwise I agree.
I don't think he would take Fitch. I think Jon controls the top game against everyone except GSP. To beat Fitch, you're going to need to out-strike him and Sheilds would not be able to even come close to that.
Still, Sheilds would probably give a lot of the UFC fighters fits. He's top 5 IMO.

He subbed Fitch nearly 4 years ago. Fitch is way better now. Fitch has excellent TD defense and better striking than Shields, and Fitch is a guy who is impossible to put away in a fight.
Alves is a nightmare for Shields. He'd put Shields to sleep in short order.

Id probably pick Fitch if they fought. How much weight can you put on a pure grappling match they had 4 years ago when Fitch was still a relative subgrappling noob?
Fitch is also hard to take down, hard to control and can strike on his feet and on the ground and lets not forget isnt too shabby in the sub dept now.
Alves is not Semtex or even Lawler imo. He is smarter, slicker and as shown against GSP, he can defend himself on the ground and get back up. That alone spells trouble for every other WW in the div.
True, however Alves actually is an elite fighter with about 57 BJJ black belts to train with at ATT, and has amazing TD defense in addition to great striking. He's also huge for WW and strong as an ox
"It would be awesome if we could get that together in a co-promotion, and the way Strikeforce is going, who knows, it could happen."
The UFC wouldn't co-promote Fedor with M-1 so, obviously, they'll co-promote - with their #1 competitor - a guy who was saved by the bell from being choked out and went on to leg-hump his way to victory over a guy who's famous for being goofy.
Jake is a fine fighter, but this idea of co-promotion ain't going to go far with the Dana.
Shields is tough and can take a lot of damage. He is better on the ground than GSP and his take down defense is unbelievable. Shields can grind GSP down and take a 5 round decision.
My god at that list of fighters he can't beat. he has beat Condit and what are the chances that Daley would have been in there if he hadn't already subbed him? Ben Saunders? Swick, Kampmann and Hardy would be underdogs against Shields. As would Paulo Tiago.
The UFC may have most of the best fighters but literally just being a part of their orgnisation doesn't make you better. I think that GSP, Fitch, Alves and Kos would beat him.
