i just wanted to say hi
Vengence: Not trying to be a dick, but on a side note, I am wondering why you spelled vengeance wrong for your screen name? Is that a mistake or is there a specific reason. I keep seeing vengence on things and not sure why? Even clothing. Not sure if they mean "vengeance" or if this is something I am not aware of.
its how ive always spelled it.
when i was younger i had this whole thing with phonetics
and liked how words looked when spelled that way.
just a s/n i kept over the years and used for other things such as this forum
Ah. Thanks. Yeah saw some clothing and such spelled that way, but wasn't sure.
AnthonySullivan - Thank you everyone who sent me links. I didn't get a thread over here to read but all the other sites were a great read. I knew this situation was bad from the start. Anyone with experiance in the DR knows how shady stuff is there.
Repost from one of the other threads on this topic:
FYI, from someone who actually lives and trains in the DR:
The fact that this particular group held an event in the DR, instead of some other country without an atheletic commission doesn't make the DR a lawless land of scam artists. (There are plenty of other problems that would lead one to believe that, thank you very much, but we seem to get by.) There have been several MMA events held in the DR, by various Dominican promoters. All of which have paid their fighters. In full and on time.
In fact, the last time we had one of our fighters on a card in the DR (Alex Garcia and Ken Heng, so two actually) we had cash in hand for the show money the day of the weigh-ins and the win money was paid promptly. I have yet to hear of either of these promotions stiffing anyone.
A couple of Americans put on an event in the DR and, apparently, got in over their heads. From what I'm reading, they had no market research and did little to no legwork. Anyone here could have told them ahead of time that counting on ticket sales to recoup what I understand to be substantial purses was a bust to begin with, ESPECIALLY in Punta Cana.
Punta Cana is a f*ck-long drive from Santo Domingo (the capital), the nearest major city. Add in accommodation, because as a spectator you pretty much have to overnight, and you can see well in advance that few, if any, locals would attend. I for one would have LOVED to have seen the show and would have happily paid, but no way I make the drive and pay the hotel. Same with my team, same with my friends.
This clusterfuck HAPPENED to be in the DR. It could not have happened in a state or country with an atheletic commission, but aside from that it could have happened anywhere. Please don't think this was a Dominican problem, it was a promoter problem. An American promoter problem.
Cheers, lads, and Merry Christmas to you all!
