So I love UFC but why do i feel like...

Japanese MMA feels more like MMA? I'm watching Sengoku and feel like it's better MMA but there is no question UFC feels more like the show! Am I the only one?

You like freak show matches?

Dogman?-?You like freak show matches?

well sometimes... but i think it has to deal with their patience for grappling

I watched Pride; Final Elimination from 2004 last night. No MMA will ever compete with those events.

What was the first MMA event you've watched, and what were the components of it that you liked?

UFC 1 - The style v style excitement of the whole thing.

Extreme Challenge - Ralph Gracie/Conan/Sperry killing everyone (until Zinoviev)

King Of The Cage Knockout Nightmare - Pretty poor! lol

I do think MMA has been in a lull for the last couple of years since the death of PRIDE, however it's just now getting good again. I'm enjoying some of the new guys coming out now.

Bobby Lupo -  I feel like the best is yet to come for the UFC and MMA and for the most part, the world's best fighters all fight in the US. We're seeing the most athletic and skilled UFC champions ever: BJ, GSP, Anderson, Machida, Brock, some exciting monsters in waiting on the horizon (Carwin, Maynard, Diego, Grim, King Mo, Mousasi, Roger Gracie, Duffee) and the old guard hanging tough (Nog, Hendo, Coleman, Rampage, Rashad, Franklin, Vitor, Nate.)

 huh

I like it better now.

Pride had some great fights...but also had stupid freakshow matches all the time. It felt more like Pro Wrestling with the ramp, the terrible intros, the anime, the horrible songs etc...

I like the fact that the UFC got rid of all that and made it feel more about the fights. I like the fighters coming in like boxers now. I like that they don't have really huge long gay intros with cartoons and bad songs.

Yes, Pride has some of my favorite fights of all time...but the thing I found with pride was that I was happy I always watched it on tape/dvd so that I could just fast forward to the fights.

Also, I hate the ring for MMA and I like elbows.

Japan likes to promote martial art specialist, such as top level k1 strikers or top level bjj specialist but it seems that the Ufc is only interested in promoting top level wrestlers, who most really just have basic skills in submitting and striking.

Japan would love to have Machida or maiai and their specialities but look at how some fans here treat them at times. jacare, galvao, roger gracie and a shit load of k1 specialist is who the UFC should be going after, instead they prefer to promote primarily young wrestlers that are just starting off in the sport that like to piss on eachothers beds on a reality show.

WTF are you talking about?

Dogman - You like freak show matches?

Clearly not someone who watches Sengoku.

What was their last freak show match?

AK-BJJ - Japanese MMA feels more like MMA? I'm watching Sengoku and feel like it's better MMA but there is no question UFC feels more like the show! Am I the only one?

I've rarely felt satisfied after a UFC whereas I was usually stoked for about a week after watching Pride, and even the Afflictions.

Watching UFCs is like an addict getting his fix: you never feel satisfied but you're forced to pay for more.

lol at feeling satisfied from any Affliction show.

Thoses shows pretty much sucked except for the Fedor fights.

UFC 102 didn't look great on paper but every fight they showed was great. Either a great back and forth battle or highlight reel KO or sub.

Only thing missing from UFC is tournaments...but for the fighter's sake I'm kind of glad those are gone. Surefire way to shorten careers.

where pride had some epic events - every card was far from stacked.  there was utter bullshit on most of the shows.  that isnt a condemnation of Pride - but an attempt to keep to reality as memories make you think that it was more than it was.

I am talking about anderson silva knocking out about 6 top ufc contenders and then getting ranked on big time ( by ufc fans) for not wanting to go out in the first round and play rock em sokem robot with patrick cote a guy he probably was going to dispatch of later on in the fight.

anderson silva and machida both the most technical strikers the UFC have constanlty get booed by fans that don't apreciate their skills. This would never happen in japan.

That kind of intelligence does not belong here.

It's absolutely better now than it was then, but it's easy to only see the good and forget the bad when reminiscing.

Sengoku has the luxury of not dealing with a gigantic, sprawling roster, and their matchmaking is excellent. It results in a lot of elite-level MMA fights. Their FWGP events this year have been a great example of all-around MMA
