So iam just casually checking for new fight info on mmaweekly.com and I happened to noticed that the fight that I was excited to see, Swick vs Franklin, is off. Who do you think backed out of that deal?
Also, I think it is hilarious that Matt Serra is being completely overlooked by everyone involved in the UFC. I really hope he beats St. Pierre to death with a bottle of ketchup.
Yeah, I noticed on mmaweekly they're now both rumored to be fighting "TBA". I'm guessing that somebody at Zuffa decided to give Franklin an easier comeback fight (a smart decision). I would have given Franklin the edge, but Swick very well might have won.
If they fought each other, then one of them would lose and the UFC doesn't want that. They want to rebuild Rich again for a rematch with Silva so he will be getting cans until then. Also, they want to build up Swick as their next poster boy to fight Silva should Rich lose again.
That fight was never offered and never considered... UFC views both as contenders for the title and won't waste one by putting them against each other so soon.
Why is this considred soon? Half the people on here think Swick is ready for a shot at the title and you can't say that Franklin needs more than two fights to get back to a title shot. I think by not having this fight the UFC continues to lose fight credibility. IE: Riggs vs Sanchez.
"Half the people on here think Swick is ready for a shot at the title"
Exactly -- so why have him fight a dangerous non-title fight against Franklin first? If he loses, there goes his title shot. If Franklin loses, there goes his title rematch.
I am just saying that I miss the days where you had to beat a top contender to get a shot at the title. More and more the money is more important than the sport and it is eventually gonna start dilluting the sport.
