The resurgent ProElite has inked Nov. 5 for its next major event, and two ex-UFC heavyweight champions have taken co-headlining fights.
Five-time champ Tim Sylvia meets Pedro Rizzo in the main event while three-time champ Andrei Arlovski, who headlined the promotion's first event in August, meets journeyman Travis Fulton.
ProElite 2 takes place at the 12,000-seat iWireless Center in Moline, Ill., which is a stone's throw from part-time cop Sylvia's home.
Broadcast plans for the event have yet to be announced, though the promotion is in talks with HDNet to air the second event and additional ones, sources close to negotiations today told MMAjunkie.com.
O boy, I'm located too close to this event not to go. I'm not a Travis Fulton fan by any stretch of the imagination but he does hit hard. What if he puts AA to sleep???
I was at the Pro Elite show here in Honolulu. They put on a good show and both Rich and TJay are a couple of good guys. If I am back in IL then, I'll be going to that show too.
Peckerwood - Rizzo v Sylvia is a very interesting fight. I think Rizzo should definitely win but who knows?
Anyone have a clue how Fulton looks these days? Hopefully he isn't coming to collect a check and is actually training?
I'd love nothing more than to see Rizzo leg kick Sylvia to death, but I don't think by any means it's a lock.
He has had 3 straight wins granted but Rizzo's alot chinier these days and say what you will about Sylvia, but he can punch. He's got good straight punches to counter those leg kicks.
That said, Rizzo was in his prime a fantastic counter striker. Lets hope he brings it.
Back when Tim first joined the UFC his manager Monte Cox had a clause in his contract saying Tim would fight anyone BUT Pedro Rizzo. This was back when Pedro and Randy were the two best HWT's.
It's kind of cool this is happening now. Could go either way but TIm has looked a lot less in shape.
If Arlovski has any sense he will use his grappling skills in this fight. Fulton should be an easy opponent but Arlovski isnt the smartest fighter. He simply cant take a punch and if he insist on making it a standup fight, Fulton has the power to knock him out. It is amazing that Arlovski was a top heavyweight and fighting Fedor only 2 1/2 years ago. I dont think anyone could have foreseen him falling so far from the top of the heavyweight ranks. Sylvia has also taken a drastic plunge in the rankings since his fight with Fedor. He has not had a fight against an A level opponent in 3 years and was knocked out by Ray Mercer and Abe Wagner. Cant believe these two guys were at the top of the UFC's heavyweight division at one time not long ago.
