At just 22 years old, 6-foot-4 Tamdan McCrory knows his days as a welterweight fighter may be numbered.

In fact, after his latest "man spurt," McCrory (11-2 MMA, 3-2 UFC), who fights fellow 170-pound prospect John Howard next week at UFC 101, said he could soon be one of the division's biggest competitors.

"They talk about Thiago Alves being 190 (pounds) when he's in the cage," McCrory today told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio). "You're going to see another guy at the weight when I walk into the cage."

McCrory, who turned pro just three years ago, signed with the UFC after taking (and winning) a staggering eight fights in just 10 months. While young and still learning, he's still managed a 3-2 record in the world's top fight promotion with victories over Pete Spratt, Luke Cummo and, most recently, Ryan Madigan at UFC 96.

However, the fighter, perhaps best known for his tall and lanky build, is finally seeing his frame fill out.

"I had a man spurt," joked McCrory, who's equally well known for his nickname, "The Barncat." "When I was a kid, I shot up real quick in height, but my muscles never caught up to my frame. When you get older, you get the man strength, the muscle strength. … I'm getting my man strength."

I'm not picking a winner in this one. War Barncat & War Doomsday!

What if he has another "man spurt" while in the cage? That could change the whole dynamic of the fight.

Interesting. I've noticed many fighters experience man spurts at various points in their careers. Packing on lean muscle, Gettign significantly stronger and more explosive. Also interesting that he cited Alves who has looked like he acquired even more man strength in recent years. Wonder what their secret is

Tamdan works extremely hard, he is an excellent fighter. He will show it again next weekend.

Me and my friends used to have circle-spurts. There was a lot of man strength involved as well.

"man spurt" and "boom stick down the pipe"

it could be worse.

"we used to pound each other on the farm" - matt hughes

and lets not forget John Peretti - that guy had more homo-erotic quips than anyone in MMA.

I went from 6'3" to 6'5 1/2 when I was 22 and gained 25 pounds but lost 10 in the next 3 years and stabilized at 165 for the next 15 years.
