The "Broomstick Takedown" Renzo Gracie used against Yuki Kondo

Another classic Move. The “Broomstick Takedown” that Renzo Gracie used in his MMA Fight against Yuki Kondo. It is a great Takedown, but some of my students had problems doing it. So in this video, I give you some details about how to do this takedown.

Nice technique and explanation. Thank you

For later

I’ve always felt like that’s a great takedown for when you don’t want to hurt your opponent. Like for example, if you had to subdue a family member or friend who are out of control and possibly attacking someone else.

Thanks for posting.

Eh, not really. It’s pretty good for tearing ACL’s if the guy tries to stay standing. Drysdale used to tear people’s ACL’s with this takedown constantly.

I would say if you do it like I show it in the video with focusing on the triangle point it is a safe take down. If you twist like with the tani otoshi you can hurt people very bad…

I agree with that. If you just hook the behind the knee using your own foot leg sit that’s where you are putting pressure on the ACL. Either way I appreciate you showing the technique.
