Been having a lot of success with this position lately. I've got a handful of subs to go to from it that I've been figuring out as I go. Is there a particular player I should be looking for instructionals or footage of whom I should be searching for?
anybody else here have some sneaky tricks relating to the crucifix?
If you can master the little details shown in this you will be so far ahead. Once you start going against better and better people they have the ability to keep their elbows super tight and eventually you start to move away from looking for the crucifix becasue it becomes too much effort. The only thing I would add is to really work on attacking the arm once in crucifix. I train primarily nogi and if all you are doing is fighting for the RNC it can be a battle. Once you attack the arm they start to arch their back and neck to relieve pressure and the neck becomes more available.

Armbar from crucifix

For me I like to armbar using the leg postion that Joel uses. Marcelo has shorter legs so his firgure four is tight and leaves no space. For me I feel that people can have too much space when I figure four.
Bonus note: If you can actually rep the reverese omoplata finish from the crucifix enough so that you can pull it off against the big strong dudes in live rolling you'll be a monster.
i don't know why I've never thought to look up the position on mginaction I've been a member there for a few years now haha.
The fun thing I've noticed with the position is like a lot of moves, the more you focus on it the more you see opportunities for entry into it. And it's such a dangerous control position. I feel like I'm browsing a rack of candy trying to decide what to have when I get to it.
even managed to hit an armbar using my legs the other day.
In terms of crucifix instructionals, Dave Jacobs has an awesome one on Digitsu. Aesopian's one on Artechoke Media is also really good.
I've used both of those a lot, they've helped my sparring and also helped my teaching. Before, I barely knew what the crucifix was. Since, I use it all the time.
im not a crucifix guy, my hip is arthritic so i dont like to use my legs like that. But my instructor and one of my black belt training partners comsider stuff they learn from baret a marcelo as good asgold!
I'd also like to add looking into hooking up with Dan Simmler. He's got a very unique approach to turning people over from the Crucifix that doesnt involve somersaulting over people (like the commonly taught technique).
In case people need more convincing, I did a review of Dave's instructional here: http://www.slideyfoot.com/2016/05/video-review-crucifix-building-blocks.html
BJJ Scout put out a Garry Tonon highlight with a really easy guillotine from the crucifix
Is that the "hide your hand in your thigh" one?
I don't usually get into the crucifix, but I have been trying to improve my guillotines, so I gave that one a try and was able to pull it off pretty well. I was kind of surprised because it seems like your telegraphing a lot, but idk. It wasn't against a high belt, so I'm still exploring it. It's kind of along the lines of a guillotine off backpack against turtled opponent that I've been working on.
