Emanuel Augustus (born Emanuel Ya’kov Burton , January 2, 1975), is an American former professional boxer from Brownsville, Texas. He competed from 1994 to 2011. He was known as “The Drunken Master” for his entertaining boxing style and showboating manner designed to confuse opponents in the ring. He faced top level competition throughout his career, winning the IBA light welterweight title in 2004.
That was entertaining! I never heard of the guy, too.
He was my favorite boxer back in the day. His style caused some refs to do him dirty, they didn’t seem to understand it was his style and not some form of disrespect or however they saw it. Ill definitely watch this later
Ive spent time looking for this exact video because of the music.I
ve wanted to share it a few times in the past. Thanks for posting it.
to box professionally with that style, you must have extremely large balls
Floyd said he was one of the hardest guys he fought if not the hardest.
Him vs Ward was the 1st boxing match I sat and watched from to finish - I’ve been hooked ever since! (that was over 20 years ago)
Legend.
I remember being in middle school and seeing this dude fight on ESPN. I used to love watching him fight.
I smoked many a blunts with him while he was training in Pahokee Fl. at the Lopez gym. He was an interesting fella. One of the local hood kids who thought he was a bad ass sparred him one day, the kid was 6’2 215 and in shape. He toyed with him at like 12% speed for a couple of rounds then sat him down with a body shot. It was pretty great to watch.
Wicked story what was the last you heard of Augustus anything? Hope.he is well he is a special talent.
He started out his career as Emmanuel Burton and changed his last name later in his career. I think he took on his adopted dad’s surname or something to that effect. He was amazing to watch.
Thanks for posting. Amazing style.
