The Real Chael Sonnen

The Pendulum - Elias, when promoting a piece you wrote - and this is a good one - maybe don't post the most controversial part considering it will absolutely be seen out of context.

I put off reading and commenting on this for that reason.

However, upon reading, it is a very good piece. It's based on facts, which is more than most writers even attempt. Despite criticizing Sonnen, you've still managed to put him in a relatively good light.

And I'm a Sonnen fan. Phone Post 3.0
Well, thanks for reading and the kind words. Like all people, Sonnen has positive as well as negative characteristics. Im critical of him but I also admire a lot of what he did. Its only fair we try to present people as fully as we can, you know? Phone Post 3.0

There was a big group of people who held him responsible for all those things :/

I'd like to have some understanding as to how this article is not spot on?

There's the one paragraph about fans encouraging criminal behavior which is shaky to say the least, however the rest is filled with solid insights on Chael.

Typical of people here to focus on the one shaky paragraph - the fact it appears early doesn't help. Most here are lazy as fuck readers, and probably bailed on reading past the one paragraph they didn't like.

Overall it's a good article, and well above the standards of MMA journalism. I'm glad I took the time to read it.

I can't count the number of times posters on here claim they don't care about their favorite fighters doing steroids because "Its a fight". A lot of people were sticking up for Rampage when he went on his little energy drink joyride. Lee Murray is idolized by many, everyone loves hearing about street fight stories of the pro fighters (UFC London), etc. We do encourage this type of behavior by our lust for hearing/reading about it, and spending money on some of these individuals. I'm guilty as the next. Elias is just pointing this out, and rightfully so.

Great article, imo.
Thanks, bro Phone Post 3.0

Elias Cepeda - Please elaborate, good sir. Phone Post 3.0

When has any fan EVER encouraged a fighter to commit crime?

Or use drugs? There may be some out there that dont care about steroids. However they arent also saying "man I really wish he started using steroids."
This.

Oh and I've been on this forum since I was 15 and I've seen plenty of fans encourage fighters to use drugs and commit crimes:)

Get real, dude... Phone Post 3.0

Lee Murray is one of those special cases though. We're all WTF over his choice to participate in the robbery but he's a badass fighter that we all wonder about too.

Very frustrating and disheartening.

Elias Cepeda-had respect from me for:

Being a fellow UGer.  McCorkle, Miller, Matt Brown, guys on the UG get extra push and love.

Practices martial arts.  One thing to be a fan, another to actually put yourself through the grind.  Respect

Competed.  Takes balls to compete and put yourself out there and on the line.  Win or lose, you gain respect for competing.

I'm being 100% honest here.

The things he gripes about Chael, have merit.  I don't like admitting it, but Chael for sure is guilty of making out of line comments purely to sell a fight. Seems like Elias has a problem with someone doing something dirty, for self gain.  I can't fault Elias for that, but.....if you truly have a problem with doing something dirty for self gain, then why would you do that very thing by going out of your way, days after he retires, to air out old dirt?(article hit piece on Chael 2019)

Elias says he's been on the UG since he was 15.  I'll take his word on that.  If it's true, he should know mma is not widely accepted.  MMA was just legalized in NY less than 3 years ago.  I understand there were a lot of politics involved, but my point that mma is still shunned by many, is a valid point.

You're one of us, if you promote mma in a positive light.  Joe Son, Lee Murray, those guys are far more guilty of worse than Chael Sonnen, as well as guys like War Machine and numerous other fighters to be arrested before, during, and after their mma careers.  You don't have to lie about what they did, but to go out of your way to do anything that could make the sport look bad, does not make you one of us.  It makes you resemble the enemy.

A fellow UGer, a fellow mma artist and practioneer, dude I wanted you to be successful.  You've given many of us, reasons to root for your downfall.  I didn't want this.  I truly hope you see where people like me come from.  We want you to be positive and successful.  We don't want you to be successful the wrong way, the same way you shun Chael.  It's odd you can't see this angle.

Well, this didn’t age well.

“Present people as fully as we can.”

Guess that means dumb SJW hit pieces.
