The Super Fight that nobody is talking about

I would rather see Jones vs the HW champ than Jones vs the MW champ, that's for sure... Phone Post 3.0

YOURDADDYDEVILANDLORD - I'd pick Jones vs Silva for the 205 title(and no, Silva doesn't have to do anything else to "earn" it) If Vitor and Chael can fight for it, Silva sure as hell can, at least he has wins at 205. If Cain holds onto the title for awhile, and Jones moves up after continuing to absolutely crush the LHW division, then that will be the fight to make. Let Jones destroy Cormier to piss off his buddy Cain, then let them fight.

I'll take DC over JBJ at HW period.

I strongly disagree with the argument "wait til Cain or JBJ defend the title a few more times".

How often in UFC, especially in today's UFC, do you have a Light Heavyweight Champion who  has successfully defended his belt, fight a Heavyweight Champion  who has won the HW belt multiple times?

The answer-ONE other time, and To Date, it goes down as one of the greatest rivalrys of all time. Chuck vs Randy.

Except Jon Jones vs Cain Velasquez, would be even BIGGER!! This is coming from a longtime self proclaimed "old school fan".

You have two CURRENT Champions fighting at the Heaviest/Biggest division in all of combat fighting.

The only way this fight could be bigger, is if you procrastinate it longer RISKING one of the Champions losing  and HOPING they both pad their win streak more before eventually fighting each other anyway, but with perhaps more anticipation.

But I WANT IT NOW!! I've seen far too many dream fights fall through for whatever reason. You have both fighters under contract, LETS DO THIS!!!

I like where your heads at OP, TTT Phone Post 3.0

Oh yeah! Phone Post 3.0

The op is right. This is the REAL super fight. I would much prefer to see this than JJ fight Anderson. Jones would destroy Anderson but a fight with Cain would be would be very hard to call.

Dana, if this fight doesn't happen by next year you're a big meanie! Phone Post 3.0

great fight!

I personally want to see Jones/Reem at heavyweight Phone Post

It is the most evenly matched superfight of the larger divisions as far as size goes...

Great fight. I would watch. Phone Post

YukiNakai'sEye - Ideally it would play out like this;

1.SILVA vs gsp

2.JONES vs silva

To set up

3.Jones vs Velasquez Phone Post 3.0

I would love for this to happen, seems doable, but modern mma has premadonnas and I see too many champions not wanting to risk their position for these fights to happen.

But that would be ideal, for everyone but GSP.

And Anderson could spoil JBJ vs Cain, however I guess that could lead to Anderson vs Cain.

So we have one person stating who they think would win in this super(duper) fight(Cain).

CormierCrackSniffer-How does Cain finish Jones?

Who do you guys see winning, and more importantly HOW?

I go through this fight over and over and I see 1 of 3 different out comes.

It is a close back and forth war exhibiting wrestling/mixed striking, and a winner will be declared but who the better fighter is won't be revealed due to time constraints.

Cain gets the edge in wrestling and wins on points

Jones keeps the majority of the fight standing, and wins on points

Unwariestpickle - Cain needs to defend his title a few times before we even talk about this.
I'm a huge Cain fan but I agree. I think Cain is and will stay the number 1 heavyweight for quite some time but with time have him defend a couple times then throw bones up there after he probably defends a few more times. Phone Post 3.0

I feel the ones who for whatever reason are shutting this fight down, don't know their mma history and know how rare it is for a fight like this to be made.

Do you guys not realize there has never been a lhw champion challenge a current hw champion?  Has there ever been a better chance than now?

It sickens me for a superfight to be proposed, and you have people acting like they wouldn't want to see it. Get the hell out of here with this ridiculous devil's advocate angle.

There's far more casual interest in Jones vs Silva, and with Silva nearing the end of his career, you're proposing that they forgo pursuing that fight in favor of Jones vs Cain?

I have no problem with them making Cain vs Jones, but it needs to happen AFTER Jones vs Silva. I think it's pretty likely Jones beats Silva, and such an outcome would really help Jones' popularity, which I think would incite interest in a Cain vs Jones fight.

There's also the fact that Jon Jones will be the face of the UFC for a long time, and he stands to gain a lot more from a fight with Andy than Cain (less people know Cain, and he'd be a more difficult fight than Anderson), so they're probably more inclined to make Andy/Jones as it is.

Jones could easily put on enough weight to be as big/bigger than Cain that being said I think Cain destroys Jones, relentless pressure like no one at LHW can put on him, pretty sure Cain takes him down and can't see Jones doing anything off his back whilst avoiding brutal gnp Phone Post 3.0

As much as I love Dana and think he does produce great fights that fans want to see; he hasn't managed to put on an MMA super-fight which would be the equivalent Floyd/Manny as easily as he said he could.

Anderson/Jones is the closest thing MMA has to Floyd/Manny right now. Anderson/GSP 3 years ago would have been and Cain/Jones would definitely be another one. Why aren't these fights being made?

If only there was some sort of Super Fight League or something. Oh well.

Btw op, VU for the great posts. I agree with everything you've said 100%. Phone Post 3.0

CormierCrackSniffer - Cain would finish Jones. Phone Post
I want to agree. Not certain that I can, but I want to. Phone Post 3.0

Cain beat Jones, Jones beats Silva.

Fight fans, we need to be self conscious and be more vocal.

I was watching Dana White at the Stanford business lecture, and he says lots of things he's been saying for years, however...

Dana had a good question from the audience and mentioned that the fight fans, the "old school hard cores", make up "this much"(holding his thumb and index finger centimeters apart implying they make up a small fracton of their total fight fans).

Needless to say, it was very disheartening. I feel that Dana and company are trying to go a different direction with super fights. They want this to be considered a sport above all else. Sad because look at how they give title shots, they could easily make just as much if not more money with superfights, but instead you have light heavyweight champions fighting losing middleweights, middle weight champions fighting over the hill not top 5 light heavyweight fighters.

Dana-tell me why Cain vs Jones wouldn't be a good fight to make. Go ahead and give me a logical reason. You won't, because you CAN'T.

rampageforpresident - I think if Jones is going to be involved in a superfight it should be against a heavyweight. Anderson, as great as he is, is just too small for Jon. If Chael can beat up anderson for 23 out of 25 minutes, what could Jon Jones do?

I suggested a few months ago that they should do silva/gsp and jones/cormier, but that was mainly because Cain had that KO loss to Dos Santos, but after his win in the rematch I think that fight makes sense.

So, I agree jones/cain would be one of, if not the, best fight the ufc could put on. top 3 for sure
Silve was injured first fight Phone Post 3.0
