So I see people complaining about the 125 pound weight class being terrible, and blaming it on mighty mouse. But I was doing some thinking and I don't think it is his fault. I think the fault rests with the UFC who have done a terrible job promoting the fighters in that division. If you look at the rankings most of these guys do not get to fight on TV regularly. How can the UFC expect fans to get excited for a PPV main event if one half has never fought on a main card of a televised event?
The really amazing thing about this is the UFC have guys at this weight class that can really be pushed. Zach Makovsky isa former Bellator champ, Henry Cejudo is an Olympic gold medalist. They have Joe Benavidez who is a killer. Put them on main cards and on big spots on fox cards. The best way to handle it is the same way they have Aldo. Noone cared about the champ so make us care about the contenders. They brought in Frankie, they built up Mendes and all the while had the slow build for Conor. Now Aldo who no one ever cared about is in the most anticipated fight of the year.
Adding the flyweight rankings for the hell of it
1 John Dodson
2 Joseph Benavidez
3 Ian McCall
4 John Moraga
4 Jussier Formiga
1
6 John Lineker
7 Kyoji Horiguchi
1
8 Zach Makovsky
1
9 Henry Cejudo
10 Chris Cariaso
11 Dustin Ortiz
12 Timothy Elliott
13 Wilson Reis
14 Chico Camus
15 Brad Pickett
Little guys will never sell in Mma just a fact. No KO power
I don't get this mindset that the UFC hasn't done enough for them
Almost every card seems to be headlined by one of the small decisions - presumably giving them a huge amount of exposure to hardcore and casual fans.
People just don't get hyped watching adults the size of children fighting.
the real issue is the cage, its too big. UFC should do shows with only sub 155 fighters in a smaller cage
You can't please everyone
Akron OG - Little guys will never sell in Mma just a fact. No KO powerAren't most of Dodson's wins by KO?
Let that division fight Honda
I didn't know no one cared about Aldo. Maybe the real casual fans but anybody that knew anything about MMA knew he was one of the best P4P.
BJTT_AJM -That's like saying middleweights are great counterstrikers because Machida is in the divisionAkron OG - Little guys will never sell in Mma just a fact. No KO powerAren't most of Dodson's wins by KO?

That's kind of a myth. They just don't get hit flush as much. The aggravating thing for the most part is is they retreat way too far away to avoid even something as simple as a jab at times.
It's hard to relate to a dude who is 5'3"and 125 lbs. Said it before, say it again.
Reminds me of those old cartoon where the little guy is swinging while the bigger guy puts his hand on top of his head and lets him windmill.
The real issue with the 125 division: the fans.
Lol at promoting shit. I could spend millions of dollars promoting piles of shit from my ass and nobody would buy. Same thing here. If the division is boring there is no amount of promoting that can help. If anything people would start getting more pissed because they would get more let down at the boring fights that the promotion had them hyped about.
I had to google Horiguchi. Had no idea who he was. Then had no idea why he was getting a title shot tbh since it looked like he hasn't beaten a top 10 ranked fighter yet ( or top 15 for that matter ). Not his fault, just hasn't faced any.
Imagine this; If you introduced a new fan to mma/UFC and said 'hey watch this fight between two 5'4" 125 lb men" they would be like wtf is this shit?
Seriously.
I told my recent girlfriend I liked mma and when she didnt know what it was, I showed her a mm fight on youtube. She told her friends I was a pedo and broke up with me.

never jack in front of your girl bro.
Just not as exciting to watch...
I kinda feel the same about the smaller girls..
tis is why I don't know why they are getting smaller with the girls, and not bigger..
oh ya, they want to avoid cyborg like the plaque
!
Two things they might consider:
1. Smaller refs during the 125 and 135 division fights. Then there's no big guy in the ring to remind viewers that the fighters are small-ish.
2. A different ring announcer for those fights. A short one. Let Buffer take a break during the small guy fights.
I think these would work. I was going to suggest lying about their height and not announcing their weights before the fight, but the commissions might frown on that.
It has nothing to do with size, watch any Benavidez, Dodson, McCall, Lineker fight and tell me flyweights are boring.
I think its Mighty Mouse's style that turns people off. I would rather watch Benavidez vs Moraga or Dodson vs Makovski. MM is too dominant for his own good.
