The UFC trying to market (ex Soviet) Caucasus fighter Topuria as a Spaniard is hilarious 😂

The rose in the mouth, countless mentions of Spain, him dressed as a Matador :joy:

The UFC can’t stomach the idea of having to market yet another Soviet blooded champ

Ilia Topuria (Georgian: ილია თოფურია)

Topuria (Georgian: თოფურია) is a Georgian surname.

Topuria was born in Halle Westfalen, Germany[7][8][9][10] to Georgian parents.[3] At the age of seven he moved to Georgia with his family where he started practicing Greco-Roman Wrestling at school.[3] At the age of 15 he moved to live in Alicante in Spain, where he started practicing martial arts at the Climent Club.[11] In 2015, he made his debut as a professional in local competitions.[12][3]

The Soviet Union didn’t even exist anymore in 1997. Christ you’re such a faggot. Your love for swarthy cock just seeps into every post of yours.

He is Spanish by all means.

And he is doing the right thing representing Spain. Many of these fighters, the moment they hit the big leagues, they suddenly forget who helped them, and go back to their “roots”. Like Usman, suddenly becoming Nigerian.

He lives in Spain, trains in Spain. He should be representing Spain.

If you won the belt, should the UFC track down where you are from originally in Europe and market you as that, instead of an American? Cause the only real Americans are Native Americans.

Georgia is a about as Spanish a country as Dagestan :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Georgia is a transcontinental country located in Eastern Europe and West Asia. It is part of the Caucasus region, bounded by the Black Sea to the wes …

Another Caucasus champ

Oh but Topuria moved to Spain when he was 15… total Spaniard over here :face_with_hand_over_mouth: cope

lol @ this fifty year old carrying around a half edited post of mine to help him seethe and cope

He got his wrestling base from Georgia where he lived until he was 15.

And genetically speaking, he’s about as Spanish as Merab :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

He is not denying that he is from Georgia, but him not representing Spain would be wrong.

“Representing” The flag under his name during walkouts is literally a Gerogian flag. The UFC are playing up this fake Spanish angle to try to build a market in Spain. This is not representing.

So Messi should also play for Spain.

Why does this bother you so much?

Because the Ex Soviet region runs MMA and the UFC are already trying to misrepresent it because they know all of their divisions about to be run by this region.

So you think Topuria has no say in this?

Absolutely not. You can’t fake your heritage. Just like you wouldn’t get to claim you’re a Nigerian if you moved there for a few years so you could meet a Nigerian to run a train with you.

Silly Jackaloon, everybody knows they don’t have trains in Nigeria.

I mean ffs… if he were to say, yep guys I’m Georgian, but I moved to Spain for a period of my life and I owe some of my MMA training there, that’s one thing… but coming out to mariachi shit with rose pedals in his mouth dressed as a Matador in his pre fight hype :joy: Cringe af

You guys are just disagreeing with me for the sake of disagreeing.

This would be like my white ass dressing up as an African tribesman and claiming I was Dodongo if I spent a few years there doing humanitarian work.

ONE had a title fight between Vera and Bhullar and they tried to market it as Philippines vs India and even had the Filipino and Indian flags on the tale of the tape even though Vera is from Norfolk and Bhullar is from Vancouver. It was laughable. ONE is corny with their marketing of 10,000 WORLD CHAMPIONS OF MARTIAL ARTS as well during and between every fight.

Maybe the guy idenrifies as a spaniard since moving there

I don’t think it’s even on Topuria. Half the post fight press conference was about them doing a show in Spain. This is just the UFC looking to move into a new market.

They’re not any more so than anyone else. Them coming over here before Europeans did doesn’t mean anything.

They’re not some independently evolved species. They’re human beings that came from Southern Africa, the same as the rest of us.
