There goes my arm?

After years and years of getting caught in armlocks, I am unable to fully straighten my right arm anymore.

I knew this. But two months ago I got caught in an americana, tapped, but felt something rip at the elbow.

That passed. But since then, at the end of every training session my elbow is killing me. I do fine for the first couple of rolls, but at the end it's like I'm getting stabbed.

I take omega-3 fishoil, glucosamine and chondrotine supplements. That works pretty well with the soreness, but this injury has been nagging longer than any others.

Any advice?

ice it, and more importantly rest it. May have to ask people to take it easy on that arm for awhile (if they don't want to then they are dick training partners and not worth your time to train with).

Sometimes the body/body parts just needs rest.

and I mean longer than a week or two. This may take a couple of months. Do what you are doing now, but also ice it at times and have people not target it. Most important, don't you push it too hard when it comes to using that arm. Gotta play smarter, not harder.

If you're arm is really that messed up, its going to take more than just ice and rest.

It sounds like you've been compounding injuries over the years which is a really bad thing to do.

Supplements aren't going to do shit if its really that bad.
Look up a trigger point specialist and/or myotherapist to work on it.

And look into joint mobility work like Scott Sonnon's intu-flow

my main problem is not getting armlocked on that arm, but when I do elbow-knee escapes or brace. That's when the pain sets in.

I'll give the ice another go.

Yep, the arm is finished. What other sports are you into?

I have sonnons set but haven't watched it. At this point I'm willing to try whatever.

Other sports? Well, I play Mafia Wars on facebook.

Damn mafia wars BS! I think your on my facebook... no?

Have you seen a doctor? Scan?

mri. that could reveal any underlying issues.
i actually went to the gym today for the first time in almost 7 years. i basically quit when i started bjj.
anyway, whilst doing chinups, my elbow felt like it was going to blow out when i was the bottom of the "hang".
guess i got elbow issues as well

Join the crowd.

My left arm is the same way, the range of motion is very limited, can't straighten it or fully bend it. It really affects the strength factor too, even push ups are extremely painful. Been that way for a long time, it also trashed my golf game.

Now if my arm is even close to any sub i tap, it's not worth the damage or pain.

Tap sooner instead of allowing the arm to be fully locked out?

see a doc or PT specializing in sports medicine

See a doctor.

Stop tapping so late.

srsly...

or alternatively go to GNC and take what ever the dude getting 6.35 an hour says will help. If that doesn't work out schedule a consult with your gym buddies with sick Dela Riva guards for a more qualified second opinion.

ice rest repeat

Go the doctor. If he tells you to rest the arm for awhile, wrap it up to protect it and roll with one arm.

TAP EARLY, AND I MEAN VERY EARLY IF YOU SEEK LONGEVITY IN THIS GAME. ITS A PERSONAL DECISION THOUGH. I JUST RETIRED FROM 25 YEARS IN L.E.

I COULD NOT GO TO WORK WITH AN INJURED ARM, KNEE, NECK...
I COULD NOT FEED FEED MY FAMILY IF I DID'NT WORK. TO COMPLICATE THINGS I LOVE BJJ. MY PERSONAL SOLUTION WAS SIMPLY TO TAP EARLY SO I CAN LIVE TO TRAIN ANOTHER DAY.

HARD TO STAY INJURY FREE IN THIS GAME BUT WHAT MATTERS IS HOW BAD OF AN INJURY YOU HAVE. BUMPS, LITE SPRAINS ARE COMMONPLACE. BUT NOT BEING ABLE TO STARIGHTEN YOU ARM MEANS THAT YOU HAVE SOME PERMANENT STRUCTURAL DAMAGE. GOOD LUCK.

A few years ago I got a small fracture in my ulna right at the elbow joint. The tendons gave out on both sides.

Even though the bone healed in a normal amount of time, it took several more months to get back full extension and rotation of my elbow.

If you busted your tendons, maybe you're experiencing the same sort of thing. Just give it time, and keep doing what you are doing and hope for the best.
