Every single Polaris fight ended with an indecisive result. How can you promote a "submission only events" with no submissions...
Why do you need a winner so badly? Two guys met and neither could best the other. That's good enough for me.
As long as you get to see amazing jiu jitsu, I'm fine. And apparently that's what was displayed today.

morons like you don't understand. you cant control the outcome of the fights
mideastgrappler -Then don't market it as "submission only". 20 minutes is nothing to the pros.triforce - Every single Polaris fight ended with an indecisive result. How can you promote a "submission only events" with no submissions...

But you can control the format. That's the entire point of this discussion. EBI is great but the holding time ruins it. Guys will stall out by holding the back position for as long as possible then try to escape the fastest - once again winning without a submission.
I just hope this doesn't roll over into other sports. You know: guys using the rules to their advantage.
I really don't see a problem with draws. What's the big deal whether there is a submission or not in the time allotted?
To me, it's like someone just watching an MMA fight to see "Two people bang, yo."
Who gives a shit if there's a sub or not? Why does it actually matter that a sub "should" happen in your opinion? Serious questions. As long as the matches were good, technical battles, I don't see a point to insisting on subs, and I certainly don't think it reflects poorly on the competitors or the organizations.
The fact is, when you have two very skilled opponents, a sub will be less and less likely.
Anyhow, just one man's opinion.
If you want guaranteed submissions, then the matches need to be mismatches - high level vs average. When both fighters are of the same high level, draws are the most likely outcome.

The problem is that "submission only" matches must go until someone gets a submission, in order to be truly representative of the submission-focus, or else it is point grappling without the points.

It's often a matter of an escape or a takedown that determines the winner.

But in the end, they have a determined 'winner' at the conclusion of the match, which I think is the point of the OP.
Nobody likes to see a tie in sports, which is why pretty much every single major sporting event on earth (aside from soccer, I suppose) has some sort of tiebreaker type ending.
The whole 'death before decisions' slogan cracks me up. Yeah, the death happening is the slow and painful death of your viewing audience over time.
Super fight sub only events can still be fun. But I prefer the EBI tournament style better. Overtime rules are great, even if some argue giving guys positions they didn't earn is bad. EBI has put on the most exciting "pro" events.
not as if tonon palhares was boring
No sub = no money
They'll fight harder for it
Paul Harris & Garry T was the best BJJ match Ive seen in a while, both very high level and both attacking.
Lots to get excited about..
