TME about Holly Holm

I don't follow women's boxing. Did she beat prime Christy Martin or at the end of her career? Phone Post 3.0

I stopped following Martin after she ducked what would have been the biggest payday in women's boxing history againts Lucia Rijker. I think she fought Holm 5+ years later so she probably was not in her prime.

She beat an old Christy Martin who had been away for almost two years after getting destroyed by the much bigger Laila Ali. Martin might have had one fight before Holm.

Holm was a very good boxer but was also a bit protected. She fought almost exclusively in New Mexico. Her record is the usual womens opponents like Chevelle Hallback and Belinda Laracuente, but that's who she had to fight. Her toughness can't be questioned after the heart she showed getting stopped against the bigger Mathis, but then she came back and beat her in the rematch. She also fought Mary Jo Sanders, who was unbeaten and rematched her i. Detroit. There were some women whom I wish she could have fought like Jennifer Alcorn, but Alcorn wasn't available. I don't know if she was any better than Jessica Rakoczy. She has proven to be much better in mma though which is what counts now.

I think she might give Ronda more trouble than people think. She will show her movement and angles that Ronda hasn't seen and she has decent takedown defense. Even though she has a couple big highlight KO's pre UFC,  she doesn't have nor never has had big power. That also means she had to depend on having supreme conditioning which could prove huge if she is able to get Ronda past the first two rounds. Holly uses her smarts and skills, so she isn't going to come straight at Ronda like Cat and Bethe. I doubt she will win but she will be a different type of opponent.

VTFU. I think that this is exactly what everyone was looking for on this thread. Phone Post 3.0

I'm interested in the fight, really will give Cyborg an opportunity to scout another Rousey fight with a strategy being used that no other opponent has put together. I don't think Holm will be mentally defeated before stepping in the ring, many of Rousey's opponents seem star struck fight week <img alt="Phone Post 3.0" border="0" src="/images/phone/apple.png" style="vertical-align:middle;" /></span></span></blockquote>

If you don't mind me asking, how are you so confident about what will or will not affect Cris Cyborgs strategy?  I find it bizarre that you assume that Cris and her team will not come up with a game plan going into a fight with Ronda. So according to you, she should stop training Judo with Ronda's old Judo Coach and Olypic medalist Isreal Hernandez? If I am not mistaken, Didn't Ronda have the same game plan for the majority of her fights?  Did you not see Cyborg vs Coenen 2?

"If you don't mind me asking, how are you so confident about what will or will not affect Cris Cyborgs strategy?"

I just explained. She is one of the most one-dimensional fighters in MMA history. Every single fight she has, there's no strategy beyond Bobby Boucher charging gorilla smash.

What Cyborg has is a muscle and power advantage over everyone she faces. She doesn't have the ability to emulate someone like Holly. She doesn't have the ability to emulate someone like Tate. She doesn't have the ability to emulate someone like Ronda.

She has the ability to charge and wing gorilla-smash punches, or struggle for sloppy take-downs when they're not working.

Yep. Way more intriguing matchup than another Tate beat down. Phone Post 3.0

I would like to see a "healthy" Cat get a rematch before Meisha gets a 3rd try. Mendes isn't getting Aldo, Edgar wasn't getting another shot at 155, and Joe B likely will never again against Demetrious, so I just don't get what Meisha has done to merit another shot. I like the Holm matchup. "IF" she can avoid the takedowns early, she will make it interesting. She will give Ronda angles that will nulify her bullrush charge to clinch that she has utilized against everyone else.

I'm pretty much in agreement with you (I guess that makes me a shill), Nunes could've been a good one too but Holm is an easier sell. She a decorated pro boxer, undefeated mma record and easy on the eyes. Nunes looked really good against McMann (who imo has been overhyped) but it's only been a year since she got beaten bloody by Zingano. I think it's also a good match up for Ronda because she needs to go some rounds. She needs a girl that's gonna cut angles &move around the cage. These girls have made way too easy for Ronda so far & a 3rd fight with Meisha wouldn't be any different than the 1st two. I think Holly's gonna be a much more challenging puzzle to solve than she's getting credit for. I still favor Ronda pretty heavily but if Holly can avoid getting mauled in the clinch and make Ronda pay a price trying to close the distance it could get interesting. Those are big ifs, though.
