He understands English. It's just not his first language, so some of the non-standard stuff might not immediately translate well for him.

If you were bilingual, you'd understand.

This. When i arrived in the states some of the expressions and slang totally eluded me, to the point of misinterpreting a lot of what people would say or flat out not understand wtf was going on. (Listening to radio or watching TV proved challenging).
8 years down the road after living here this isn't a problem anymore, but GSP still lives in Canada and doesn't speak english in his daily life, so it's probably still a problem for him.

When I was training for a deployment to Iraq working as a trainer for Iraqi's I was told from day 1 don't use idioms because they wont understand wtf you are talking about. I spent a month mostly learning Arabic language and culture and how to properly use an interpreter. However nick calling him 'mother fucker' translates just fine. I think that is what torqued GSP off more then anything.

hahaha a kiss ass in french is "liche cu" and GSP translated it word for word so that why it came out as "I dont lick ass" hahaha funny shit

If GSP is having trouble understanding Nick he should be thankful he's not fighting Nate. Now THERE is a guy with a comprehensive vocabulary.

(On a side note, watching Christian Bale in The Fighter reminded me of Nate every time he spoke. I swear Nate could've played that role and wouldn't even have had to take acting lessons).
