TUF 30 cast… Featuring Kamaru Usman’s brother and TUF 2 alumni who hasn’t fought since 2009?

Hope Rob does well, used to train with him, great guy. It’s been years though and I thought he moved to Utah over a decade ago. Was doing some fitness stuff?

Was shocked to see him on the show and bobby maximus? Did he actually change the name?

The goal of the show isn’t to bring all these guys to the UFC…the goal is to get 2-3 potential stars per division…so if Bartling, Heiderman, and Pauga end up looking good and get UFC deals out of it (I just picked the 3 undefeated guys, know nothing about any of them) then the show is doing exactly what it’s intended to do.

They’ve had long careers by this point, if they think they’re potential stars then simply sign them. What would they be waiting for?

Yeah he moved to Utah at least 15 years ago. Was helping run Gym Jones if I recall correctly. Think he legally changed his name

Sipe kept saying he was gonna send Usman to the Gulag…That’s an old Soviet government agency set up by Lenin and was a big part of the Stalin years which basically were overseeing the forced labor camps. He likely meant something different, though. Also can see him dropping Usman’s brother next week.

Dana explained years ago his fonrmula for the show. He daid you have 2 guys who are favortites to win the show. Another four to six who could legitimate win and the rest are pretty much fillers that are expected to lose in the first round or two and make the other guys look good with finishes and KOs.

He was using it as a call of duty reference. When you die, you go to the gulag in the game.

Because if they just sign a guy to the UFC and he makes a debut buried in the ESPN+ prelims, it takes several fights before anyone even notices. However, if he’s on TUF and people get to see him outside the cage, and they see him win 3 fights (regardless of the opponent) then when he takes his first fight after the show, it’s a featured fight that has some buzz behind it.

It’s just another way to promote guys.

Some fighters would have never seen a title shot, let alone won a UFC belt if it wasn’t for TUF.

Forrest Griffin anyone?

This season of Tuf has been solid, I’m really shocked how well Pena has came off, she seems to be a good coach as well.

Ehhh that use to be the case. There is zero hype for any fighter from the previous season for example

TUf is only going on right now because its an obligation that the UFC has to complete. Thats why its stacked with such shitty talent.

Its below the Contender Series

Just because you don’t watch or care don’t assume you represent the majority of MMA fans. I just pulled up a couple contract winners from DWCS (Hadley and Buday) and Buday has 17K insta followers with Hadley at like 28K…and he was a cage warriors champ also. I then looked at the guy who won TUF last season (Turcios) and though I’ve never fucking heard of him, he’s got 50K followers.

Obviously social media isn’t the only barometer to measure popularity, but my point is, SOME people are still watching, and that’s all that matters. Dude’s had 1 UFC fight and has as many instagram followers as Rob Font…a guy who has headlined events his last few fights, with two of them being against popular former champs.

His nicknane back in the day was maximus, and well Rob/Robert can go by Bob/Bobby. Someone said he changed his name legally, not sure if he did or not but yeah, its different. Havent talked to him since probably around 2005 or 2006.
